Pampered by Short-Lived Bigshot

”My brother-in-law’s gaze just now was practically murderous.”

”Terrifying, terrifying. I originally intended to invite him to play cards with us, but I didn’t dare to say it.”

...

Zeyan closed the door, lowered his head to stare at the box of screws in his hand, along with a large box of crayfish, feeling a bit frustrated.

Ruan Mengxi heard the sound of relatives, had already dressed, and seeing him come in looking gloomy, couldn’t help but laugh, ”Ding Dabao really likes you. Whenever he went out before, he never brought me any food or drinks. And he’s considerate enough to bring you crayfish.”

”You’re still laughing?” Zeyan was tempted to give Ding Dabao a kick.

”Are you going to eat them? They smell pretty good.” Despite being wrapped in several layers of packaging bags, the scent could still faintly be detected.

”Do you want some? I can peel them for you.” Zeyan felt utterly annoyed.

He had a girlfriend now and still had to act like a single guy.

”No, the smell is too strong, and it’s greasy. I’ll just have some cantaloupe.” The vendor had given them a fruit platter with a mix of apple, cantaloupe, and pear.

Zeyan then burrowed into the bedding, closed his eyes, and slept in frustration.

Ruan Mengxi chuckled softly; they seemed never to have smooth sailing. She ate two slices of cantaloupe, called his name twice, but whether he was truly asleep or just pretending, he certainly wasn’t responding to her.

Ruan Mengxi hadn’t eaten much tonight. While strolling the night market, she only had a bit of hotpot and some fruit. After brushing her teeth, she returned to find Zeyan leaning sideways on the bed, his hair softly resting on the pillow, breathing deeply, seemingly asleep.

She frowned, his hair still wet, and yet he could sleep like that, unafraid of waking up with a headache.

Moreover, his hair had almost soaked part of the pillow; sleeping like this was uncomfortable. She picked up a towel, intending to let him use it as a cushion.

”Zeyan?” She approached the bed, crouching down.

No response.

She pursed her lips, wanting to help dry his hair, but couldn’t find a suitable position, so she merely tugged a light blanket over him and gave him a peck on the lips before preparing to get into bed.

She bent over to pick up the remote from one side, turning off the TV, which dimmed the entire room significantly, plunging it into a sudden silence.

As Ruan Mengxi was about to set down the remote, someone grabbed her wrist.

His hand remained warm...

”You weren’t sleeping? I was talking to you, and then...” Ruan Mengxi’s words were cut off as she felt her wrist being pulled with force.

She stumbled and fell onto the bed, landing on the pillow he had slept on, damp and cold. Her breath hitched as a shadow loomed, pressing in closely, his exhalations as hot as molten lava.

With that pull, Ruan Mengxi’s previously neatly closed dress gaped at the neckline, exposing skin that drew heated glances.

”I was planning on sleeping...”

”You actually stole a kiss from me.”

Ruan Mengxi couldn’t help but laugh; their relationship was such that a casual kiss was normal, wasn’t it? What was this about stealing a kiss?

Zeyan reached to hold her, leaning beside her ear, whispering a sentence...

Causing Ruan Mengxi’s face to instantly flush red!

What was he saying so brazenly at this late hour? Could a single kiss evoke such a strong reaction from him?

How sensitive could he be?

As he spoke, his damp, warm hair brushed against her face, almost imperceptibly.

A bit cool—

Falling on her face, it made her body feel unbearably warm.

It must have been because the air conditioner temperature was too high, and the dense atmosphere saturated with ambiguity felt like even a tiny spark would ignite it.

”Let’s continue...”

It was already past midnight; the matters concerning the engagement had kept them busy for several days, and she was somewhat tired. Perhaps sensing her initial refusal, Zeyan lowered his head and kissed her.

Dominant, assertive.

Ruan Mengxi felt she was still drawn to this domineering type of character; coupled with being someone she liked, she had almost no resistance.

The heat surged, her mind becoming muddled yet clear.

...

The sky over Pingjiang City frequently brought rain in the middle of the night, and in the early hours, light rain beat against the windows, sometimes urgent, sometimes gentle.

The last bit of indoor light had been extinguished.
