Capítulo 979: Chapter 584: What’s So Good About Men? Isn’t Building a Career Better?

Pingjiang Airport

Except for going through security, boarding the plane, and throughout the entire flight, Ruan Mengxi wore sunglasses. The security personnel saw a girl coming over, dressed in a long sun-protective coat with her clothes fluttering and her long hair flowing, and frowned slightly.

Her whole demeanor radiated an air of aloofness, wearing sunglasses, exuding a vibe that said ‘strangers keep away’, as if she was saying:

Don’t come near me!

This drew quite a few curious glances, as if she were some kind of celebrity.

“Miss, can you please remove your sunglasses?” The security personnel, seeing her appearance, thought she was doing it on purpose, as it’s not uncommon for people to pose deliberately at the airport.

It was only when she removed her sunglasses, revealing a pair of eyes swollen like peach pits, that the security personnel paused, coughed lightly, compared it with her ID, and gestured that she could put them back on.

Before the plane took off, she received a message from Tang Wan.

A friend of many years, who didn’t ask too many questions, simply said:

[Have a good rest at home, when you get back, come to eat at our place, let me know when you’ve landed safely.]

Once the plane landed, the scorching sun and a wave of humid heat hit her, and upon hearing the familiar local accent, she almost teared up again.

“Xixi——” The one who came to pick her up was her father.

After all, he had watched her grow up since she was little, and noticed right away that something was wrong, “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing, the flight was exhausting, let’s get in the car first.”

He just gave his daughter a deep look. Having not slept all night, and having cried a whole night, her voice already carried a hoarse texture. It wasn’t until she got in the car that he turned to look at the person in the passenger seat.

Ruan Mengxi still wore her sunglasses. She had just taken out her phone when she heard the car lock activate. But after waiting for several seconds, there was no sign of the car starting.

“Dad? Why aren’t we going, I’m starving.”

“Is it because work isn’t going well? Did your boss give you a hard time? Or did someone bully you?”

Ruan Mengxi gave a half-hearted smile, “Who could possibly bully me?”

“Take off your sunglasses, let me have a look.”

Ruan Mengxi bit her cheek, knowing she couldn’t escape, and before she could act, her father had already taken it upon himself to remove her sunglasses.

She forced back the bitterness, holding back the tears that almost spilled out.

“What’s going on after all?” The man, holding the sunglasses, his hand’s veins visibly throbbing, stared at her intently, his expression particularly serious.

“I broke up.” Ruan Mengxi spoke directly.

Originally thinking it was some grievance at work, he never expected…

Break, breakup?

His fingers suddenly applied pressure, and with a “crack——”, the leg of the sunglasses snapped.

Ruan Mengxi was ready to let her emotions out, intending to have a good cry in her dad’s arms, but seeing the broken sunglasses, her pupils shook slightly, “Dad, these sunglasses are expensive.”

“When did you start dating?” he pressed on, his hands reaching for the other intact leg of the sunglasses.

“Actually…”

Ruan Mengxi felt it was more unrequited love rather than a breakup, stammering, not knowing how to explain it to her father.

“Speak up! When did this relationship start?”

“Our relationship didn’t even count as dating.”

“Crack——” The other leg of the sunglasses broke too, Ruan Mengxi nearly fainted from breathlessness.

Those sunglasses were a brand item, not cheap, oh my dear dad.

“What’s all this, dating or not, what do you mean not count as dating!”

The first thought that sprang to his mind was:

Was his daughter played by some jerk?

“Dad, stop asking, let’s just go home, I’m starving.” Ruan Mengxi sighed, “Matters of the heart aren’t something you can force.”

“What’s not to like about my daughter, so pretty and with a good job, what’s not to like, who’s the blind brat!” he gritted his teeth, started the car, ready to leave the airport.

“You silly girl, if you’re dating, at least tell me, I’ll look out for you.”

“If you want to date, I’ll introduce you to someone. I know plenty of fine young men, way better than that little jerk.”

…

He nagged the whole way, while Ruan Mengxi either looked out the window or lowered her head to text Tang Wan, occasionally responding to her father’s speech, in one ear out the other.
