Pampered by Short-Lived Bigshot

Shen Shuci didn’t even have time to make a sound, for the hand supporting the back of her neck tightened slightly, drawing their bodies closer.

Huo Qinqi lowered his head and leaned in once again, this time it wasn’t just a peck but even a bit intense…

Her heart quivered, and she could only embrace the thermos she was holding tightly with both hands.

His fingers caressed her cheek, rough with calluses from his military service, rubbing back and forth, slowly eroding all her defenses.

Huo Qinqi knew what was in her mind, it was probably like the trauma some soldiers face after firing a gun, killing someone for the first time.

He wasn’t very good at expressing himself, his speech was not as fancy as Jiang Jinsang’s, it seemed that he could only prove his feelings through his actions.

…

Once the kiss ended, Shen Shuci’s breathing was completely erratic; their foreheads resting against each other, his voice became even deeper.

“Since you like me, let’s be together.”

“I want to be the first person you’ve ever liked…”

“Let’s give it a try, okay?”

Shen Shuci pursed her lips and after a long while, she finally said, “The fish has gotten cold.”

“Then eat first.”

Deep into the night, Shen Shuci didn’t really have an appetite; she casually picked at the fish for a few bites before Huo Qinqi escorted her out of the car, the two of them sharing an umbrella, “Go inside.”

Huo Qinqi knew that she had shadows in her heart from her childhood, it might not be easy for her to readily accept someone, but she could tell him outright that she liked him, so he wasn’t in a hurry, they would take it slow…

“I’ll go in first,” Shen Shuci said.

“Mm.”

Huo Qinqi watched her open the umbrella and carry the thermos, slowly stepping into the rain, until she turned a corner and disappeared inside the Jiang Family’s gate; he was about to turn and get in the car when suddenly footstep sounds came from behind…

As he turned around, Shen Shuci had already approached with her umbrella, walking quickly, her face splattered with raindrops, standing in front of him, still panting slightly.

“There’s something else…”

Before he could finish, Shen Shuci suddenly leaned in, tiptoed, and pecked him on the lips.

Their umbrellas pressed together, letting the rain pour in…

Her lips were soft… yet icy cold.

Yet the breath she exhaled on his face was so warm it made his heart heat up.

“I’m leaving now.”

Without giving him time to react, she quickly walked away with her umbrella, almost as if she were fleeing.

Huo Qinqi stood beside the car, his fingers loosened, forgetting to hold the umbrella; drenched by the rain, his heart felt warmly scalded.

After a while, he suddenly chuckled softly, touched the corner of his lips, and drove back to Hexi.

…

Early the next morning, when the Huo Family got up, Huo Qinqi was already doing his morning exercises.

Huo Zheng, who usually woke up quite early, knew that someone had been busy in the kitchen the night before. He looked at the car in the yard, the wheel tracks still pressing into the grass and mud, and noticed that when he returned, the sky was just beginning to brighten. What he didn’t expect was that after staying up all night, instead of sleeping, Huo Qinqi actually got up to exercise.

“Dad, good morning.”

“Mm,” Huo Zheng appraised him.

Previously on the military base, he had been eager to return to Beijing and hadn’t rested well for several days, and he hadn’t slept last night, inevitably there were signs of fatigue like dark circles under his eyes, yet he looked spirited…

Huo Zheng stretched out his legs and frowned slightly.

He’s even smiling at me?

What’s this kid smiling about?

Huo Zheng felt an eerie urgency, quickly running back to tell his wife about their son’s odd behavior…

What did this kid do last night, inject himself with chicken blood? Why is he so energetic?
