But Monsieur wouldn’t let him say it, was it because he was afraid she wouldn’t accept it?

So Sofia restrained herself from saying anything.

-Miss Noboa, I will take you to the city.

Sofia dropped her off on the main road into town and told her to be careful before reluctantly leaving.

Micaela watched the car disappear around the corner before withdrawing her eyes.

There would be no more contact between her and Carlos, would there?

Putting aside her concern, Micaela told herself to cheer up, she still had a long way to go!

The most important thing right now was to get settled in a house and then find a job.

She found a cool shade, pulled out her phone, looked up where the houses were in good condition,

then picked out a few that looked good to her and went to look at them right away.

After a long day of running around and a quick lunch, he still couldn’t find a suitable house.

The ones he liked were too expensive, the ones he didn’t like were in a not-so-safe neighborhood, and

the ones he neither did nor didn’t like had a condition of paying more than a year’s rent at once.

With so little savings, what would she eat and drink after paying rent for a year?

Dejected, she walked on a sidewalk, an advertisement for a house for rent in her hand.

What was she going to do, should she stay in a hostel tonight?

Hostels were expensive...

-Ouch!

A middle-aged woman didn’t see Micaela and bumped into her, and Micaela took two steps back

before she could get to her feet.

The middle-aged woman, who had short, curly hair that reached her shoulders and looked elegant,

hurried to apologize with a smile.

-I’m sorry, miss, did I hurt you...?

Micaela shook her head.

-No, I’m fine.

-Hey, miss, do you want to rent a house? asked the middle-aged woman with a surprised look on her

face when she saw Micaela with the rental ad in her hand.

Micaela nodded without understanding.

-I have a house that I’m going to advertise, come and see it, it’s clean and in a safe neighborhood, I’m

in a hurry to leave the country and the price is definitely acceptable!

Micaela was still resisting, fearing that she was a bad person.

But when she heard her say it was a clean, safe house at an acceptable price, she couldn’t help but

take another serious look at the middle-aged woman.

Kind-looking and tastefully dressed, she didn’t seem like a bad person.....

-Come on, I’m definitely not a scammer!

Micaela followed the middle-aged woman to a building in the neighborhood, very new, it seemed to

have been built in the last few years.

On top of that it had an elevator.

She took the elevator to the ninth floor, took out the keys and opened the door.

Micaela entered and, indeed, it was clean, as if it had just been cleaned.

-Look, I wasn’t lying to you, was I? You won’t find anything like this in the whole neighborhood. It’s one

bedroom, one kitchen, one bathroom, south facing, with a balcony, fully furnished and ready for you to

move in.

Micaela looked around and really liked the place, took a look around the neighborhood and the security

was well done.

A house this nice should be expensive, right?

Micaela was a little sad inside?

-I’ve liked you since I saw you the first time. I’m in a hurry to get out of the country and the price is very

negotiable.

Micaela was even more impressed and asked attentively:

-How much would it be?

The middle-aged woman also frowned and spoke carefully:

-200 a month!

Micaela swallowed saliva....

The middle-aged woman looked at her expression, ”Oh no, did I say too high a price?”. She

immediately changed:

-100 a month! It can’t be lower than that. I’m in a hurry to go abroad, I have my visa and everything and

I don’t want to wait any longer, otherwise I wouldn’t have this price.

Micaela’s eyes widened in disbelief.

After a day of walking around, the minimum for apartments like these was $500 or more a month!

This lady...

No!

This lady tycoon probably didn’t know market prices!

She couldn’t miss this great opportunity!

Micaela grabbed the middle-aged woman’s hand and said excitedly:

-Yes! I want this house! Let’s sign the contract!

An hour later, Micaela happily threw herself on the couch in her room.

Moving was the nicest word in the world!

Looking at the contract in her hand, 100 a month, entitled to monthly rent payments and no rent

increase for three years!

Micaela rolled over excitedly, the bed covers were not new, but they were clean and smelled of freshly

dried detergent and sunshine.
