Reborn in the 80s: The Smart Wife with a Secret Space

Chapter 11: Chapter 11: Who Are You, and What Do You Want With Me?

As they approached the entrance of the guesthouse, a loud voice was heard from behind: ”Jianjun, you brat, how could you be so worrisome? How did you end up falling into the Yuquan River?”

”Sister-in-law, don’t scold Jianjun. It was Wensheng from Wu Xiangxing’s family who fell in. Jianjun wanted to save him, but that kid Wensheng was being uncooperative, which is why Jianjun got dragged in too. Hurry up and take the kid home to change clothes and drink some ginger tea, or he’ll catch a cold.”

When Zhang Meilian heard that her son went into the water to save someone, she felt a bit embarrassed: ”Son, look at your mother, it was my fault for not asking clearly first. Let’s go home, and I’ll make you some brown sugar egg tea.”

She then thanked everyone and quickly walked home with her son.

Zhao Jianjun was initially displeased, but hearing his mom offer brown sugar egg tea, he mumbled, ”Alright then, considering you admitted your mistake, I’ll forgive you.”

Zhang Meilian gently poked her younger son’s head. ”You brat, playing tricks on your mother already. Saving someone is a good deed, but you’re still too young. Don’t be so reckless in the future. If something really happens, how do you expect your dad and I to live?”

This time, Zhao Jianjun was genuinely frightened. It wasn’t the first time he’d played in the Yuquan River, but today, if not for the sister who saved them, things could have gone wrong.

Thinking of the older sister who saved them, he looked up at his mom: ”Mom, if no one had gone into the water to save us today, things might have gotten serious. Even Wu Wensheng was only revived after Doctor Li gave first aid for a long time.”

Zhang Meilian, upon hearing that someone had saved her son, asked, ”Who saved you?”

Zhao Jianjun shook his head and said, ”I don’t know. I haven’t seen her before.”

Zhang Meilian turned around to look, but the people who had returned from the riverbank had already dispersed. Thinking about having to go back to work, she decided to inquire after work: ”I’ll find out later and properly thank them.”

Yu Xinyan returned to the guesthouse and had just taken out a change of clothes, preparing to close the door and enter her space, when she heard someone outside asking, ”Excuse me, which room does Yu Xinyan stay in?”

Upon hearing someone inquiring about her, Yu Xinyan thought it must be Lyu Juncheng bringing someone to find her. It seemed she couldn’t enter her space, so she quickly closed the door, changed out of her wet clothes, and had just placed the clothes into the basin when she heard a pounding on the door.

Yes, it was a pounding, not a knock.

Yu Xinyan couldn’t help but frown, but as she opened the door, she found Lyu Juncheng’s sister-in-law, Yao Hui, standing outside — the woman who had stirred trouble all her life.

This woman had once desperately wanted to marry Lyu Juncheng, but Mrs. Yao would absolutely not agree. Yu Xinyan only found out later, which explained the nitpicking from the start. Feigning ignorance, she said, ”Who are you looking for?”

Outside the door, Yao Hui looked Yu Xinyan up and down: ”You’re the one who wants to be my nephews’ stepmother, Yu Xinyan?”

Yu Xinyan didn’t directly answer her question but instead asked in return, ”Who are you, and what do you want with me?”

Yao Hui’s eyes were full of disdain: ”Let me tell you, my brother-in-law will never like you. You’re just a nanny he hired to take care of the kids, so don’t get too happy too soon.”

Yu Xinyan looked at Yao Hui with a faint smile: ”You seem very opposed to me marrying Lyu Juncheng?”

Yao Hui did not expect Yu Xinyan to be so different from what she had imagined. She wasn’t like a quarrelsome village woman, nor was she humble, but she directly pinpointed her motives.
