Peasant Woman’s Decreed Life as a Wife

Chapter 1012: Chapter 1009: Rest and Recuperate with Peace of Mind

“Idiots, you don’t even stop it.”

The bailiffs instinctively stepped back. As expected, the next second, a vase was smashed over, shattering into pieces, with broken porcelain falling onto the bailiffs’ bodies, yet they dared not dodge and could only forcibly endure it.

“Enough, go down. I understand now,” County Magistrate Sun seemed very calm.

The beloved concubine also realized that he had been prepared all along.

After waving her hand to dismiss the bailiffs, she then crouched down and asked curiously, “My lord, did you anticipate Eunuch Ren going to the archives storage?”

“Although many things recorded there seem unproblematic on the surface, if one truly spends time to sort them out, one can still find clues,” he replied.

“Can’t we just burn the records?” the beloved concubine always disliked the existence of things that could threaten her, speaking in an irritated tone.

Yet County Magistrate Sun stroked his beard. “No, if we burn the records and they find evidence that we set the fire, we won’t just miss out on promotion, we could be beheaded. The imperial court has decreed that the records must be kept safe; if anything happens, one will be demoted with no promotions for three years. For a county magistrate like me, with an already low rank, if I lose my position, I won’t be able to save my life either.”

“Then what did you do, surely you didn’t let Eunuch Ren conduct his investigation?” the beloved concubine huffed.

County Magistrate Sun squinted his eyes, quite pleased. “Before I learned of Chu Heng and Eunuch Ren’s arrival, I had already had someone jumble up all the records in the archives storage. Those things from over a decade ago, what’s the use in looking at them? I wasn’t even in office at the time.”

“With so many records, all mixed up, they won’t be able to untangle the clues for a while, only wasting their time in vain.”

The beloved concubine breathed a sigh of relief and patted his shoulder. “My lord, you always have a plan.”

“I will rest for a while now, I won’t bother them. Let’s see what they can come up with.”

“Concubine admires you.”

In the front courtyard, the archives storage.

Until late at night, the materials Ye Muyu had written were already quite thick. She would hand them over to Chunqin silently after finishing each one.

Eunuch Ren yawned and looked at Ye Muyu, who was still writing vigorously, feeling somewhat impressed. “Madam, the sky is already dark, go back and rest, and come back to continue tomorrow.”

“Can we continue tomorrow?” Ye Muyu asked subconsciously.

“Of course, today, County Magistrate Sun did not come all day and even sent someone to inform ‘Eunuch Ren’ that he is just tending to his injuries and won’t be coming.” Eunuch Ren said with a sarcastic smile, “He knows the records in the archives storage are all chaotic, and these trifles can’t indict him but they can annoy us.”

Though Eunuch Ren was angry, he could do nothing to County Magistrate Sun, and for the moment, he was quite annoyed.

Ye Muyu: “If we can continue tomorrow, let’s rest for now, Eunuch. We’ll be more alert during the daytime.”

“Agreed.”

The two returned to their respective quarters.

After washing up, Ye Muyu lit the oil lamp, reorganized the material again, and it wasn’t until late at night that she extinguished the lamp to sleep.

She had already sorted out one third of the content.

After finishing breakfast, she went back to the archives storage.

Eunuch Ren yawning, came over and seeing her looking so intently, he too got busy looking.

This sorting continued for three days.

And during these three days, Chu Heng did not return.

“Eunuch, Madam, our master sent this servant to ask if you need any help,” a servant inquired.

Eunuch Ren looked at him irritably. “No need, tell your master to rest and recover with peace of mind.”
