Ministers Begging Me to Ascend the Throne

Chapter 1200 - 180: Stroke Caused by Poisoning (Part 3)

The Hidden Guard understood Zhao Yao’s intent and was about to leave when Zhao Yao stopped him.

”Wait, can you get in touch with the Dragon Guards around the Emperor?”

The Hidden Guard was a bit surprised and asked, ”Your Highness, do you wish to meet the Dragon Guards?”

”I have some matters to inquire about with them. Can I see them?”

The Hidden Guard replied, ”If it is you, Your Highness, you should be able to see them.”

Zhao Yao understood the Hidden Guard’s meaning and instructed, ”Then have them come to see me tomorrow night.”

”Yes, Your Highness.” With that, the Hidden Guard, seeing that Zhao Yao had no other orders, withdrew.

The next morning, Zhao Yao was awakened by Tong Xi.

After Zhao Yao washed up, he hurriedly brought the witch doctor into the palace to diagnose the Emperor’s pulse.

Lady Liang and Zhao Yao stood by anxiously and restlessly while waiting for the witch doctor to take the pulse.

After two quarters of an hour, the witch doctor finally finished. Zhao Yao hurriedly asked, ”Witch doctor, how is my father? Does he still have a chance to recover?”

The witch doctor respectfully said, ”Acupuncture, along with some specially made pills, still gives him a chance to recover.”

Upon hearing there was a chance of recovery, Lady Liang immediately beamed with joy, ”Really? Does the Emperor really have a chance to recover?”

Zhao Yao asked, ”How confident are you?”

The witch doctor did not dare to hide anything: ”Your Highness, I do not dare to deceive you. We only have a thirty percent chance.”

Hearing a thirty percent chance, Zhao Yao felt no disappointment; rather, it was a bit better than he had expected.

”Can he fully recover, or will there be residual effects?”

”Your Highness, a full recovery is not possible. I can only make the Emperor wake up, not as he is now.” The witch doctor truthfully reported, ”The Emperor will likely have difficulty moving.”

”As long as he can wake up, nothing else matters. Mobility issues are better than being paralyzed and bedridden as he is now. Start the acupuncture for my father now. As for the herbs, if the palace does not have them, I will send someone to Lingnan to fetch them.”

”Yes, Your Highness.”

Lady Liang instructed Tong Xi to be on standby in case the witch doctor needed any assistance, while she took Zhao Yao to the dining hall for breakfast.

She hadn’t had breakfast yet, only snacking on a few pastries, just to have breakfast with her son.

Mother and son chatted while having breakfast.

When they finished breakfast, the witch doctor had completed the acupuncture, and the Emperor’s fingers were able to move.

The Emperor was already awake and, upon seeing Zhao Yao, made ”ah ah” sounds.

Seeing that the Emperor still recognized him, Zhao Yao felt both joy and heartache. After chatting with the Emperor for a while, he left with the witch doctor.

Before leaving, he also had the witch doctor check Princess Li’s pulse.

The witch doctor prescribed medicine for Princess Li.

Just as they stepped out of Kunde Hall, they saw Prince Wei approaching with Yu Hai.

Zhao Yao gave Prince Wei a glare and then walked past him without stopping.

Seeing Zhao Yao’s demeanor, Prince Wei was not angry, and instead, he smiled.

In the carriage heading to Zongzheng Temple, Zhao Yao asked the witch doctor, ”Just now, at Princess Li’s place, you looked uneasy. Is there a problem with Princess Li’s health?”

”Your Highness, Princess Li is incurably ill, beyond even the salvation of a Daluo Immortal.”

Zhao Yao, aware of the witch doctor’s skills, knew that if he said so, Princess Li’s condition could indeed be hopeless.

”How long can Princess Li live?”

”I can only extend her life by a year.”

”A year it is, then.” Zhao Yao further inquired, ”Is my father’s stroke genuine, or caused by poison?”

”It’s caused by poison. If I hadn’t diagnosed it carefully, I wouldn’t have discovered the poisoning.” The witch doctor replied, ”The Emperor is affected by a chronic poison from the Western Regions, which won’t kill but will cause a stroke.”
