“I can’t afford an electric fan even if there is electricity.”

“That’s right!”

Li Youcai was so angry that he blew his beard and stared at her. “Shut up! We’re in a meeting! Anyway, this time, our Trinity village has to get electricity. If anyone doesn’t participate and they miss the opportunity, the electrician won’t come and pull the wires for them in the future.”

“How much does the village chief want each household to pay?”

“Yes! How much is it?”

Li Youcai had calculated the price. “2.50 dollars per household for the electricity meter is enough. The electricity company will pay for the cost of hiring a technician and pulling the wires. There’s no need for anything else. I’m telling you that this is a good policy for the country. Electricity meters are a must, so we charge fees.”

Su Wen calculated in her heart. This fee was not expensive. It must be a price given to the poor rural area. She had tired of the trouble of not having electricity. It took her a long time to get used to going to bed early at night.

Once the electricity was connected, she could buy a television and all kinds of electrical appliances.

In the early 1980s, there were very few domestic household appliances, but it was good to have channels to buy imported ones.

However, others didn’t think so. When they heard that they had to spend 2.5 dollars to buy an electric meter, they objected, causing Li Youcai a headache. However, there were supporters too. Other counties or individual villages had received electricity at the same price.

Everyone was the same, so there was nothing to object to.

“Village chief, please connect the electricity in our village!”

“That’s right, it’s convenient. I won’t be afraid at night anymore.”

“What? Do you think you will go to the wrong bed at night?”

“Hahaha…”

For a moment, the courtyard was filled with laughter and support. Some muttered that they had no money too. The atmosphere was vivacious. Li Youcai was relieved when he saw that most people supported him.

It was a good policy for the country. If he did not complete the mission, he, as the village chief, would be embarrassed if he went to the town for a meeting.

“Alright, those who support me will line up at the accountant to pay. Those who have paid give me a note. When the time comes, the power supply station will pull the wires and install them. Let me tell everyone again, don’t miss this opportunity. If you miss it, the price won’t be the same. The technician might not have the time to help you install it.”

As the village chief rambled on, the villagers lined up in front of the small table set up by the new accountant to pay.

Su Wen was queuing up when she accidentally saw the household grandpa standing hesitantly in the corner from the corner of her eye. Her heart skipped a beat. She helped the household grandpa pay the money when it was her turn.

The household grandpa helped her family a lot. He was also very kind. He had no children, and when he was old, he relied on the government’s financial assistance for living. During the land distribution, he did not get a separate share. He was allocated a small vegetable garden, and there was not much in total, including the private plots.

He was living on a tight budget, he couldn’t spend much money.

The household grandpa could still do some work and was healthy, but people would always get old while their health would get worse. When they could not do any work, they would be even poorer.

Su Wen sighed in her heart. Under the surprised gaze of the new accountant, she whispered, “Don’t tell them that I handed it over.” The old man was very honest and would never take advantage of others. She did not want to burden him.

“Alright.” The new accountant was from the Xu Clan, one of the three major surnames of the Trinity village. He was a middle-aged man with a refined appearance but a little stiff. He was an old accountant in the factory in the town and was a low-profile person.
