“Is it about the bags you’re making?”

Su Xiu watched as her Big Sister and Second Sister worked on a bag. It was so beautiful that she could not take her eyes off it. Her Big Sister had stitched a vegetable basket for her just a few days ago, and she had been carrying it around ever since. Many people would stop and ask her where she bought it when shopping for supplies in town.

“Yes!” She had not wanted to attract too much attention while Zhou Hengyang was away, so she kept a low profile when purchasing furs from He Changming.

However, the situation was different now. Zhou Hengyang was back. Although he had gone out to meet his friends and had not returned, it did not matter.

So long as he was not too far away, she could be as bold as she wanted.

“Okay. I’ll ask him if he will drop by for lunch to discuss the partnership.” Su Xiu stepped out of the house and went to look for He Changming.

When she arrived at He Yulan’s place, Su Xiu spotted He Changming talking to

Xu Xiangdong in the living room. They were chatting amicably, seated. He Changming was a head taller than Xu Xiangdoing, and his ram-rod silhouette reminded Su Xiu of her older sister’s husband, Zhou Hengyang.

Su Xiu hesitated for a fraction of a second but quickly mustered her courage and entered the compound.

Since her Big Sister put her in charge of a business, she had learned the importance of putting on a brave front, even if she felt nervous or afraid around unfamiliar people. As her Big Sister once said: No one was scarier than Zhou Hengyang, so there was no need to be afraid of anyone else.

Su Xiu still remembered how she and Su Qing had readily agreed.

He Changming hurriedly got to his feet, surprise evident in the startled question he raised. “Su Xiu, what are you doing here?”

“I dropped by to invite you over for dinner.” Su Xiu was so nervous she did not dare meet He Changming’s eyes. “Are you free?”

“Of course I am.” He was as free as could be!

“Oh? Do you two know each other?” Xu Xiangdong tilted his head questioningly.

“We do,” He Changming answered.

“Haha… And I was just about to introduce the two of you. Su Xiu is a good friend of Yulan. They often work the fields together,” Xu Xiangdoing said with a smile and almost immediately regretted opening his big mouth. Why did he have to volunteer so much information about Su Xiu?

Zhou Hengyang was already unhappy with him. He really was courting death!

Perhaps it was for the best that He Changming did not seem to be paying attention to him. Instead, he took the initiative by going up to Su Xiu, saying, “Let’s go to your place now.”

“What? Oh. Alright.” Su Xiu was stunned by He Changming’s initiative.

Wasn’t it normal to politely decline an invitation to dine at least the first few times? It was her first time seeing someone so enthusiastic about having a meal at someone else’s house.

“Hang on a second.” He Changming suddenly stopped Su Xiu. “I need to get something. Wait for me.”

“Okay?” Su Xiu was thoroughly confused by He Changming’s behavior.

He Changming returned with an armful of wild pheasants, rabbits, and dried mushrooms. Smiling brightly, he said, “Let’s go!”

Su Xiu stared, stunned. She was too embarrassed to ask if the armload of goods were for her family. It wouldn’t be polite to ask now, would it?

But if it really was for her family, wasn’t it a little too much? Others would think they were taking advantage of He Changming and his generosity.

Pheasants and wild rabbits were all great gifts.

He Yulan, busy in the kitchen, thought she heard Su Xiu’s voice. She popped out of the kitchen and saw her Big Brother leaving with Su Xiu. He had not taken more than two steps out of the house when he made an about-turn and picked up the things he had brought for her.

He Yulan was dumbfounded.

What? Was this her Big Brother?

Was this the best hunter in Black Eagle Village?

Was this the future clan leader of the He clan?

It was too much! He hadn’t even married Su Xiu yet and was already playing favorites!
