Reborn in the Eighties as a Housewife with a Space

Chapter 2104: Chapter 2098: The Woman with the Broken Palm

”Actually, you can’t really say that. I was just hearing people talk. I live next door to them, and at the very least, I’ve never seen Su Jin getting close to anyone. And Minghui never said anything bad about his wife. But I’ve seen Hu Lai often come looking for Su Jin, though Su Jin didn’t pay him any mind. It’s fair to say Su Jin is quite pitiful too.” Amidst the crowd’s accusations, finally, someone spoke up in defense of Su Jin.

”Granny, what’s going on? Tell us about it.” After hearing the old woman’s words, everyone wanted to know the inside story.

”You all know that Su Jin was rejected from her engagement with the Hus, saying it was due to her palm lines, that she would bring bad luck to her husband, so the Hus didn’t want her. But Hu Lai is quite stubborn; he doesn’t want to break ties with Su Jin. In the end, Su Jin married into the Mings, and Hu Lai got married too. However, Hu Lai still keeps coming around to the Mings to see Su Jin. After coming so often, you know, no issue becomes an issue. Don’t you agree?” The woman called Granny spoke softly and then asked the people surrounding her.

”Granny makes a good point. But why do others talk like that? Surely, it’s not just idle gossip, right? Besides, they say there’s no smoke without fire, and if there’s no wind, where would the waves come from? So I think there must be something to it.” After hearing this, everyone felt Granny made sense, but human nature is such that people love gossip, especially when it involves talking about others’ family scandals. The gossip gets so deliciously absorbing, not realizing how much harm it causes the involved parties.

”It’s because Hu Lai’s wife caused trouble, right? You all know Su Jin isn’t bad looking. If it weren’t for her palm lines, would the Hus break off the engagement? It was an old-time arranged marriage, but it was canceled just because of palm lines.” Another well-informed person revealed what they knew.

”Of course it should be canceled. If not, it would bring harm to one’s husband, leading to no descendants, right?” Superstitious people still believed such women shouldn’t be married.

”That’s true, isn’t it? Just look at how prosperous the Mings used to be, and see how they’ve declined in recent years. All this happened after Su Jin arrived. Who would believe it’s not her fault?” Voices continued in the crowd, with criticisms of Su Jin far outweighing those defending her.

But is it really fair to let them comment like this about someone? Su Jin has a good mindset; otherwise, she might have been forced to the brink.

”Oh, it’s just her bad luck. She hadn’t been here long when the Ming’s old man got reported while working with someone, and they were fined heavily. That’s why the state of the Mings suddenly turned like this. Don’t look at me like that! I have relatives working inside, and that’s what they told me, so I’m just speaking the truth.” The person pitying Su Jin didn’t expect to receive so much attention, quickly explaining in fear.

”Su Jin is really pitiful. Although the Mings didn’t overly criticize her, their attitude towards her was still lukewarm, which, for a woman, in front of everyone’s eyes, is very unfavorable. If not, why would so many people act this way towards her?” Granny had been paying attention to Su Jin because she had helped her before, but the more she noticed, the more she realized how difficult things were for Su Jin.

But seeing others criticize her so much, she couldn’t help her much either. Oh, it’s truly tough for her.
