Reborn in the Eighties as a Housewife with a Space

Chapter 2073: Chapter 2067: Only a Small Amount of Rice

”There’s nothing to it, I ate, it’s just that I’m having a fever today. I don’t feel like eating, so I didn’t cook. Really, I’m not lying to you.” Ji Yu knew there was no money at home and almost no rice, but she didn’t really skip meals. She just made a thin porridge with a small amount of rice. Whether or not she could eat rice, at least she could fill her stomach with rice soup, so she wouldn’t be hungry.

For children from poor families, this is a common thing. So when Ji Yan heard it, he didn’t say much more because he could see she wasn’t lying. It was his lack of ability that kept his sister from having enough to eat.

”Brother, our days will get better, and I’ll get better soon too. Don’t blame yourself.” Ji Yu didn’t want to see her brother feeling guilty. This wasn’t anyone’s fault. Their family’s belongings had been taken away by so-called relatives. It wasn’t easy for them to get enough to eat and wear warmly.

Yet, despite this, their sibling bond didn’t weaken, did it? They had lived through so many years. If there weren’t a boy in their family, Ji Yu believed their house would have been taken too.

So she was grateful to her brother for the peaceful life she had today. How could she blame him?

”Alright, stop talking now, you should rest. I’ll go make some porridge for you. Eat it and then take medicine, so you’ll recover faster.” Ji Yan had no intention of continuing the conversation with his sister. It was better to let her rest first.

”Okay.” Ji Yu was also tired. She was forcing herself to stay awake to talk to her brother. If she wasn’t careful, she might faint, which would scare him.

So when she heard her brother’s words, she agreed readily. She was genuinely exhausted.

”Sleep well, when you wake up, you can eat.” After watching his sister fall asleep, Ji Yan softly said a few words, then went out to make porridge for her.

Meanwhile, when Qin Xue left, Chu Molin returned to the store to look after the kids.

”Big brother, why are you alone? Where’s sister-in-law?” Chu Xiaoqiao saw Chu Molin return alone, without Qin Xue, and asked him curiously.

”She’ll come back later. I’m here to take the kids home. Have they come down?” Chu Molin, seeing his sister alone in the shop, asked her.

”No, they haven’t. They’ve been upstairs all this time and haven’t come down at all.” Chu Xiaoqiao had been keeping an eye on the entrance and hadn’t seen them come down, so she answered truthfully when Chu Molin asked.

”I’ll watch the shop, you go upstairs and call them down.” Chu Molin, as a man, wasn’t comfortable going to where two women were staying. He didn’t want any misunderstandings, which wouldn’t be good for his wife or his reputation.

Even though everyone here knew each other, and they were all acquaintances, Chu Molin never crossed such lines.

Therefore, in his mind, he was a married man and constantly reminded himself of this. He didn’t want any misunderstandings to arise between him and his wife.

”Okay, I’ll go up then. You watch here. If anyone comes, just sell. The prices are all about the same anyway.” Chu Xiaoqiao recalled how, in the morning, Chu Molin had specifically called her down when someone wanted to buy something, so she reminded him.

She just wanted to avoid the hassle if the morning’s situation happened again. It wasn’t a big deal, but it wasn’t something they wanted to deal with unnecessarily.

The price of these vegetables didn’t differ much; it was only a few cents per pound. So even if her big brother didn’t know the price of everything, it wouldn’t matter.

Chu Xiaoqiao might not have thought this way before, but since she took over the shop by herself, she understood that sometimes giving a little could bring more profit.
