Seeing his state, and thinking about his wife’s suggestion that Molin might be her cousin, he found it hard to express his current feelings. “What did you say when you returned to the Jings’ house? Did they agree to cut ties with you?” Chu Molin could not fathom the likelihood of this, or else the situation would not have escalated to such an extent.

“Impossible! I barely escaped a beating with a broomstick when I raised the topic.” Jing Xin remembered how he returned home to the divorce agreement left by Fang Xiu. He headed straight to the Jings’ house and played all his cards. He did not want to beat around the bush with them anymore.

“Xin’er is back.” Jing Xiaonan looked at his adopted son, finding it increasingly difficult to understand him. How could he have changed so much from before? In the past, he had a grasp of his feelings and thoughts, but now he was clueless. Moreover, he was no longer in sync with the Jings, leaving Jing Xiaonan at a loss for words.

“I want to sever ties with the Jings.” Jing Xin paused before voicing his thoughts.

“Jing Xin, do you realize what you’re saying?” Jing Xiaonan was taken aback. He never expected to be confronted with such a statement as soon as his son returned. It was so shocking that he felt his heart disease acting up.

“I do.” Jing Xin had thought this through very carefully.

“And you still say so.” Jing Xiaonan stared at Jing Xin, trying to ascertain his intentions, but to his disappointment, he could not fathom anything.

“I have thought a lot about this. You could consider me dead.” Jing Xin thought to himself. Hadn’t they assumed him dead two years ago? So, there was nothing unusual about his current decision.

“You undisciplined brat, do you think severing ties is child’s play?” Jing Xiaonan covered his chest as he gasped for breath, livid.

“I know it’s not child’s play, but I also know how the Jings treated me. Don’t tell me you had no idea. They went too far. So, don’t you dare tell me that I’m overreacting now. Compared to what they did, my actions seem lighter.” Jing Xin stared back at Jing Xiaonan impassively.

Without his condoning, how could the Jings treat him and his family so poorly? How could his home fall apart? The Jings wanted to take advantage of him without showing him any decency. He wouldn’t let it happen over and over again. It would be better to nip it in the bud. This would put an end to everything and spare him the bother.
