When Jing Yuan arrived home and saw Jing Peng waiting at her door, her heart skipped a beat. She wondered if her second brother had learned of her visit to their eldest brother again.

“Second Brother, what brings you here? Is something the matter?” Jing Yuan carefully asked.

“Follow me,” Jing Peng said, his gloomy face showed no signs of easing but increasingly clouded over. It seemed to him that she was very happy this time. The thought of her cheerful demeanor made his heart sink even further.

“Second Brother, where are we going?” Jing Yuan was pulled along. She couldn’t refuse. She had no choice but to follow Jing Peng’s lead closely.

“Second Brother, what are we doing here?” Jing Yuan asked Jing Peng, feeling a sense of fear at the sight of his smile.

“Yuanyuan, didn’t I tell you not to seek out our eldest brother again? If you don’t listen, you’ll just have to bear the consequences. Right?” Jing Peng slowly approached Jing Yuan, holding her chin so she would be forced to look at him.

“Second Brother, I went over just to see my eldest sister-in-law and I happened to run into our eldest brother. I didn’t go specifically to see him.” As soon as she heard Jing Peng’s words, Jing Yuan knew he was aware of her meeting with their eldest brother earlier that day. She knew she had to admit it.

“No.” Jing Yuan stubbornly replied.

“Good. Sit still and don’t move. Remember, don’t move.” Jing Peng let go of her chin, gently guided her to the living room stairs, and made her sit down.

“Okay.” Jing Yuan didn’t know what he had planned and decided to just do what she was told.

“I’m about to surprise you.” Jing Peng gave Jing Yuan a smile, slowly spoke, then turned and went into the kitchen. When he returned again, he was holding a bunch of lilies.

“Yuanyuan, come here.” Jing Peng, who’s now standing by the dining table, beckoned Jing Yuan.

Jing Yuan got up and slowly walked over. Standing in front of Jing Peng, she had never seen him act this way before; very gentle and even more handsome without that gloomy expression. He looked even more attractive than their eldest brother.

“Second Brother.” Jing Yuan looked up at Jing Peng.

“Silly Yuanyuan, have you forgotten that today is your birthday? Second Brother wishes you a happy birthday.” Jing Peng placed the flowers in Jing Yuan’s hands with a smile.

“Thank you, Second Brother.” Only then did Jing Yuan remember that it was her birthday. She had completely forgotten. So, the reason that her second brother had brought her here was to celebrate her birthday. She had been so scared earlier.
