Reborn as an Ugly Wife in the Countryside

Chapter 1325: Chapter 1327: When Does Your Family Plan to Hire Help This Year?As Xiaoxiao suspected, there were indeed some women on the big square discussing this matter.

Rather than discussions, it was more like they were testing each other’s waters.

”Hey, about that Bao Mountain thing with the Old Zhong Family, what does your family think? Going or not?”

”Our family hasn’t decided yet, there’re still two days to go, right? We’re seeing what others in the village think first. How about your family, going or not?”

”Haha, our family is thinking about waiting too, just to see. Besides, the farming season is about to start, and the family needs to prepare, and, we also have to work at the Old Li Family, they hire quite a few people during the farm season.”

The Old Li Family they mentioned was the family of Zhong Xiaoxiao’s best friend, Li Chuntao. In this village, the Old Li Family was another wealthy family besides the Old Zhong Family. They owned a lot of land, and during the farming season, they hired villagers from Stone Village to help with the corn harvesting.

”Yeah, who knows if what the Old Zhong Family said is true or not? It’d be a shame to pay the Silver and not earn it back, and also miss out on the job at the Old Li Family.”

”...”

”...”

Xiaoxiao came over holding her child and overheard their discussion. She had to admit, the villagers had quite a lot of little schemes. She didn’t step forward, instead, she found a secluded corner to sit, thinking to listen a bit more. After all, knowing both sides, she would be undefeated.

These women were so engrossed in their chat about this issue they didn’t notice Xiaoxiao eavesdropping nearby.

”Hey, it’s been a whole day already, have you heard of anyone going to the Village Chief’s house to sign up?”

”Haven’t heard, maybe everyone is just waiting.”

”...”

”...”

While everyone was talking, a plump woman with an imposing figure walked over from the front of the square. She looked wealthy, wearing a finely made cotton dress, and a silver hairpin was pinned on her tall hairdo. Her face, unlike the other women in the square, was fair and radiant, clearly someone who consumed rich foods often, with no signs of sun or wind damage.

Perhaps due to her large body, or maybe because she carried weight in the villagers’ minds, unlike Xiaoxiao, she was immediately noticed by the women in the square when she arrived.

Someone spoke up, ”Hey Aunt Li, when’s your family planning to hire people this year?”

When Xiaoxiao saw who it was, she thought to herself, who could this person be? But when the villagers spoke, she realized, wasn’t this Li Chuntao’s mother?

Thinking about it, it made sense. In this village, the Old Li Family was the only one living such a wealthy life. Judging by this figure, they must indeed belong to Li Chuntao’s family. Later on, Xiaoxiao would learn that from top to bottom, everyone in the Li Family shared Li Chuntao’s physique, each one well-fed and plump.

Upon hearing someone asking, Chuntao’s mother stopped and walked towards the crowd, ”In a day or two, probably. The corn is ripe, I’ll pick a day when I get back, then start finding people to harvest corn.”

”Hey Aunt Li, did you hear about the Old Zhong Family wanting to take the mountain?”

”I heard about it, so what?” Chuntao’s mother thought, their family relied on so much land for a living; there was no need for the children to go up the mountain, so the Old Zhong Family’s mountain venture had little to do with them.

Chuntao’s mother’s counter-question embarrassed the questioning woman a bit, who then said, ”Ah, no biggie, just that your family’s hiring people too, didn’t want everyone going up that mountain instead...”
