Reborn as an Ugly Wife in the Countryside

Chapter 895: Chapter 897: Let Little Shitou Go With YouAll afternoon, Xiaoxiao’s heart was on edge, fearing that the Village Chief might come again and disrupt their plan to escape that night. Unexpectedly, it was very quiet, and no one came to the small courtyard to cause trouble.

Xiaoxiao’s anxious heart finally eased, with only the nighttime escape ahead.

After dinner, Xiaoxiao and Yang Ming returned to their room to pack the essentials for their escape.

Silver must be kept on hand, dry food must be kept on hand, and water must be kept on hand; everything else was streamlined.

They abandoned the pots, bowls, and pans, even Xiaoxiao and Yang Ming’s spare clothes were discarded.

They only took some of Little Liufu’s things, clothes for changing, diapers, and the bowl and spoon used for Little Liufu to drink milk.

Carrying too much would slow down their escape. Once they reached the town, they could resupply. Fortunately, they had brought a lot of silver; otherwise, they would be doomed.

As for the route to the town, they had already inquired from Shitou’s mother, and everything was meticulously prepared.

They had just finished packing when they heard a knock on the door, ”Knock, knock.”

Xiaoxiao and Yang Ming exchanged a glance, fearing any mishap at the last moment, their hearts trembled, ”Who is it?”

Shitou’s mother stood outside the door, feeling very embarrassed as she spoke, ”Sister, brother, it’s me, I want to discuss something with you.”

Hearing it was Shitou’s mother’s voice, Xiaoxiao let out a sigh of relief and quickly went to open the door, ”Sister-in-law, come in.”

Xiaoxiao helped Shitou’s mother into the house. Even if Shitou’s mother hadn’t come to her, she would have gone to her. They couldn’t bring much on their escape, and it was best to leave the things for Shitou’s mother to use. It would add something to this humble home.

As soon as Shitou’s mother entered the room, she suddenly knelt on the ground, startling Xiaoxiao and Yang Ming.

”Sister-in-law, what are you doing? Please get up! Whatever it is, just say it.” Xiaoxiao hurried to help her up.

But Shitou’s mother was determined not to rise; no matter how Xiaoxiao tried, she couldn’t move her. All they heard was her sorrowful voice, ”Sister, don’t pull me yet, listen to me first.”

Xiaoxiao, being a modern individual from the 21st century, truly couldn’t accept such sudden kneeling theatrics. She looked at Yang Ming with a troubled expression, not knowing what to do.

Yang Ming was equally at a loss with the sister-in-law’s action of kneeling. Nonetheless, he respected her choice and said, ”Sister-in-law, go ahead, we’re listening.”

Kneeling there, Shitou’s mother could only judge Xiaoxiao’s direction by the position where Xiaoxiao was pulling her. She turned her head towards Xiaoxiao and spoke sorrowfully, ”Sister, brother, I’ve thought long and hard, and I’ve decided to let Little Shitou go with you. I beg you, please watch over this child, he’s suffering too much staying with me.”

As she spoke, the tears began to flow uncontrollably, the thought of separating from her son, possibly never meeting again, brought all the sorrowful emotions to the surface.

Shitou’s words made Xiaoxiao and Yang Ming instantly understand; she wanted to stay and let Little Shitou go with them.

Perhaps Xiaoxiao could understand Shitou’s mother’s decision; no mother wants her son to suffer. She was willing to endure the pain of separation to ensure a better life for her son.

Xiaoxiao knew she couldn’t persuade Shitou’s mother to leave with them, so she nodded and agreed, ”Sister-in-law, please get up, I agree.”
