The Abandoned Wife Dumped Him First

"Congratulations, you're pregnant."The day Victoria Sanger finds out she's having a baby, her husband, Elias Shawn, is at a prenatal appointment with another woman. She has carried a torch for him for ten years and worn his ring for two. Victoria once thought that if she just loved him hard enough, he'd eventually turn around and choose her.Instead, she ends up lying in a pool of blood, listening to her husband on the phone, speaking softly to the woman he's always put first. That's when it finally hits her: the only one moved by her devotion was herself. This time, she is done. She files for divorce. When she turns to walk away, Elias slams his hand against the door, trapping her in place."Vic, I didn't sign the papers. You’re not leaving me."Victoria gives a quiet, derisive laugh."We've been living apart for two years. That's as good as walking out on this marriage. Mr. Shawn, I'm on my own now. Do us both a favor and keep your hands to yourself. Love that shows up this late isn't worth a thing."Elias sinks to his knees in front of her, voice rough."Then I'm the one who isn't worth a thing. I'm sorry, Victoria. Marry me again, please."
