The Day His Demands Broke My Water

At first, Ryan’s name still popped up in my mind from time to time.

But as the days passed, I thought about him less and less.

By the time two months had passed, he had completely faded from my life.

Looking back, that painful experience didn’t seem so difficult to endure anymore.

The reason our eyes are on the front of our face is because we are meant to always look ahead.

I thought my life would continue peacefully from here on out.

But just a week later, an unexpected guest threw everything off balance.

When the man stepped out of the car, wearing exaggerated sunglasses, I was stunned for a full ten seconds.

”Mannie Lindsay, long time no see. You really are hard to find.”

Andy White waved at me.

I stared at the man before me, dressed like a flamboyant butterfly, with a somewhat speechless expression.

”What do you want with me? Did I owe you money?”

Andy White strutted toward me, his long legs extending from beneath his oversized shorts. He shoved past me, walking into the living room like he owned the place.

”Have you been living here these last few months?”

His familiar tone irritated me. I walked in front of him and said sternly, ”What exactly do you want, Mr. White? I don’t think we’re that familiar.”

To be honest, I didn’t have much interaction with him, and my impression of him wasn’t particularly good.

I didn’t understand why he kept coming to me again and again.

Hearing my question, Andy White looked down, his eyes locking onto mine.

”I’m interested in your work ability, so I want to recruit you to my company.”

This excuse was far too flimsy. I let out a derisive laugh.

Before I could speak, I saw Andy White’s ears turn a shade of red.

”I’m telling the truth. I’m not lying.”

I couldn’t be bothered to argue further, raising my hand in a gesture to show him the door.

”Alright, you’ve said what you wanted, now leave. No need to stay.”

Seeing my firm attitude, Andy White quickly grabbed my arm. ”Hey, come on, be reasonable. I’m doing you a favor by visiting you, and you won’t even offer me a cup of tea?”

”The temple’s too small to accommodate such a big Buddha as yourself.”

I slammed the door shut with a loud ”thud,” leaving the dumbfounded man outside.

”Hey!”

He knocked on the door twice.

I called out from behind it, ”It’s getting late, Mr. White. You should head home now.”

There was a moment of silence, then Andy White shouted, ”Don’t you want to know how Ryan is doing lately?”

I froze. His name… It had been a long time since it appeared in my life.

”I heard Ryan is about to marry that mistress of his.”

”I don’t care who he marries.”

I shook my head lightly and stepped to head upstairs.

The thin door didn’t block the faintest sound, and sensing I was about to leave, Andy White quickly called out, ”Alright, alright, I’m not joking anymore. Ryan isn’t with that woman. Ever since you left, he broke up with her. A few days ago, his mother tried to set him up on blind dates, but he refused. I think he’s still waiting for you to come back…”

I paused and opened the door. ”Mr. White, you came here specifically to act as a mediator for Ryan?”

Andy White was caught off guard, quickly retorting, ”Of course not! He’s not worthy of me speaking on his behalf.”

I stood on the stairs, just a few inches taller than him, looking down with a raised brow.

”What does my relationship with him have to do with you, Mr. White?”

At my words, Andy White’s chest rose and fell sharply.

It seemed my comment had struck a nerve.

I took a step back, ready to close the door.

But Andy White suddenly pressed his hand against it.

I blinked in confusion.

”Of course, it matters.”

Meeting my puzzled gaze, Andy White spoke deliberately:

”My mom says I have to marry a woman who’s strong in her career, someone who can help me manage the family wealth.”

”I think you fit the bill pretty well.”

”Bang—”

I slammed the door shut with all my strength.

”I think you’re out of your mind.”
