”Xixi?” The caller was Ruan Mengxi.

”Wanwan, why can’t I reach Fourth Uncle?” Ruan Mengxi’s tone was very urgent.

”Fourth Brother? How can you not reach him? When we had lunch at noon, I saw Fifth Brother sending him messages. What’s going on? Why are you in such a hurry?”

”I had Zeyan try to contact him, but we couldn’t find him either.” Ruan Mengxi took a breath, ”The police have come to the club for investigation and questioning. They subtly asked me if we might allow others to consume those substances here, or if Fourth Uncle is involved in transporting and selling that stuff...”

”What?”

”I’ve already had people inquire about it. The police only asked about places Fourth Uncle manages. This is clearly targeted. How can he not be reachable at a time like this?”

”Don’t worry, I’ll go ask around.”

Jiang Chengsi and Si Qingxiao’s phones couldn’t be reached, so Tang Wan naturally couldn’t contact them either. Instead, she found the Si Family, hoping they could help get in touch.

The police suddenly investigating Jiang Chengsi, though it’s a private investigation, feels much like the harsh crackdown actions recently, especially with Si Yushan stepping up to cover him. Too many people are watching this matter.

This leads to even minor disturbances being greatly amplified, and the Si Family naturally heard the rumors.

Si Yushan also couldn’t directly contact the person, so he went straight to find Assistant Yuan, but was informed that the two of them went out to sea.

”...It should be bad signal at sea. They’ll probably be back soon.” Assistant Yuan didn’t expect something would happen for no reason.

”You quickly go to the dock and wait. I estimate the police are looking for him too. If he’s gone, they might think he ran away.”

”...”

The nation’s crackdown on certain illegal substances has always been strong, and soon, news of Jiang Chengsi’s incident spread through Beijing like a summer heatwave.

Geng Dong was driving Yang Yiyi around when he suddenly heard about Jiang Chengsi’s incident, and he was originally quite happy.

”...That bastard has always been too carefree; he was bound to get in trouble sooner or later, serves him right!” Geng Dong gloated, ”By the way, what happened to him?”

”It’s about the stuff found at the bar; there’s a problem with it. The police are already investigating.”

”What are you saying!” Geng Dong was startled and braked sharply, the car stopping directly in the middle of the road.

”I only heard about it; the details are unclear. The police haven’t announced anything, and it’s hard to get precise information. That’s what’s circulating in the community.” The person explained, ”Dong, does this have anything to do with you? Many people said before that those packages were intentionally set up by you.”

”Now, not only the police, but even the Jiang Family and the Si Family are reportedly searching for him.”

”As long as it has nothing to do with you, we can just watch and enjoy the show.”

”Even if this matter is unrelated to Fourth Uncle, he will definitely get implicated. With his temperament, if it’s discovered who put this stuff there, that person is certainly going to have bad luck.”

...

Geng Dong’s head buzzed. The person on the other end said something afterward, but he didn’t catch it. He only knew that the package tested out to be problematic.

He was the one who placed that thing!

But it was supposed to be just some ordinary capsule powder from a pharmacy; how did it become an issue?

He just wanted to annoy Jiang Chengsi, make him suffer a bit secretly, but he hadn’t the guts to truly frame him. After all, if caught, not just him, but the entire Geng Family would be screwed.

He only dared to act brazenly at Jiang Chengsi’s bar because he was certain the stuff was innocuous. Otherwise, he wouldn’t dare to act so openly, and definitely wouldn’t get caught red-handed. If there was indeed a problem, he would have fled long ago, not leisurely driving around.

Though Geng Dong had a fiery temper, he knew better than to touch certain things; he wasn’t that foolish.

If it’s proven that he’s the one who smuggled the problematic item, coupled with his long-standing grudge with Jiang Chengsi, he wouldn’t be able to prove otherwise even with a hundred tongues. That would be the end.

What went wrong?
