Pampered by Short-Lived Bigshot

The night was as dark as ink, without stars or moon.

Jiang Shiyi was flipping through records and writing an experimental report when his phone buzzed with a call from an unfamiliar Beijing number, which was his private number known only to acquaintances and colleagues.

He picked up and said hello.

”Third Young Master?” A voice that was entirely unfamiliar.

”Yes, and who might you be?”

The caller immediately identified himself as the manager responsible for Jiang Chengsi’s Bar.

”Is there something you need from me?” Jiang Shiyi set aside his work.

”Tonight is the citywide crackdown, isn’t it? Something happened here, and they found illicit items. Fourth Master can’t be reached by phone, and he said that in case of emergencies, I should contact you. What should we do...”

If it were just a brawl or a drunken disturbance, the manager wouldn’t have alarmed Jiang Shiyi. But amidst this pivotal moment, such an incident had occurred.

Jiang Shiyi frowned, ”I’ll go there immediately.”

...

Just as he grabbed his coat and took his car keys to head out, his phone kept buzzing.

[Beijing crackdown, Fourth Master’s Bar incident, suspected discovery of contraband drugs.]

The police’s crackdown this time was fierce and swift, with many watching, not to mention the bar being a crowded and chaotic place. The police hadn’t officially announced anything, yet the news had already leaked.

”Seriously, Fourth Master’s place has never had any issues! Fourth Master never touches such dirty stuff either.”

”The bar has so many patrons, someone with a death wish defied orders and committed the crime in Fourth Master’s place, so now he’s the unlucky one.”

”Really unfortunate, having an incident like this now, with the news breaking out; the police will surely take action, and the public will demand an explanation. Fourth Master’s case is going to be difficult to handle.”

”If we can catch who brought the items in, it’d be fine. If not, Fourth Master will have to take the blame.”

This was a local matter in Beijing, but it involved the most popular figure there, causing the news to spread quickly.

...

Jiang Mansion

The elderly lady had been trying to reach Jiang Chengsi with no answer. He wasn’t in Beijing at the moment, so contacting him was pointless.

”That rascal, always missing in action during critical times.”

The elderly lady felt a surge of frustration.

”Perhaps I should take a look myself.” Jiang Jinsang also received the news, already winding down to rest after washing up, surprised upon hearing about the incident.

”Shiyi has already gone there; more people showing up might not be beneficial.” The elderly lady frowned.

Word had reached the Jiang Family, not to mention the Si Family.

Though no one deliberately paid attention to the incident, someone had eagerly passed the information along.

Si Yushan was deeply engrossed in studying a chess game when he heard about the incident, his demeanor unchanged.

”The matter has spread already; the situation is tense. Fourth Master running into trouble is just unfortunate. If the person behind this isn’t caught, it’ll be hard to manage.”

Si Yushan frowned, ”This chess game seems stuck in a dead end, there’s no way out.”

The Si Family members saw their master without instructions and refrained from speaking further.

Meanwhile, the inside of the Bar was already in chaos.

Even the police hadn’t anticipated finding unknown drugs in Jiang Chengsi’s bar. The place was crowded when the police discovered pills and several foil-wrapped packages of powder, handed over to the lead officer by the searching officers.

”Captain, this...”

The pills and powder were white, with a somewhat pungent smell, impossible to identify. Their presence in the Bar seemed quite suspicious.

”Where was it found?”

”In the trash bin in the restroom.”

”Where’s Group Leader Lin?” Coincidentally, Lin Luyou had recently taken on a task to assist the police with the crackdown. Each team took responsibility for different zones.

All assignments were made last minute, and Lin Luyou happened to be assigned here.

The Bar owned by Jiang Chengsi, including clubs, was mostly in the west side of the city, in nearly every section, making it unavoidable.

”Group Leader Lin should be in the car; I’ll go get her.”

”Have someone lock down the Bar first; don’t let anyone leave.” With illicit items present, everyone inside was suspect.
