Chapter 819: Chapter 495: A Night Together, Clash of Souls with My Father-in-Law (Third Update)Hotel Room

Shen Lao sat on the edge of the bed, while Huo Qinqi stood in front of him, with water still dripping from his hair, his clothes completely soaked, creating a puddle of water at his feet.

They looked at each other in silence, unable to hide the awkwardness.

The old man probably guessed why he had come. Having been a young lad himself and having lived abroad for many years, his thoughts weren’t so conservative. Even if Shen Shuci and he had something going on, both willing, he wouldn’t interfere—just normal dating.

But...

Running into him in this situation was awkward.

Huo Qinqi didn’t expect to find his wife, only to run into his father-in-law. Even if he kept a straight face, he still felt awkward.

The young couple wanted to have a little intimacy, but got caught by him. The old man also felt awkward.

”Go get a towel and dry off.”

”Okay.”

The old man saw him completely drenched, and frowned slightly. As an elder, he was always concerned about kids getting sick, ”Why don’t you take a shower and change all your clothes.”

There were bathrobes in the hotel room, which he could wear.

After Huo Qinqi took a shower, they once again stared at each other in silence.

”Were you originally planning to sleep with Shuci tonight?” Shen Lao had already turned on the TV, switching channels out of boredom.

Huo Qinqi remained silent. If he admitted it, Shen Lao could have kicked him out even if he was wearing a bathrobe, let alone nothing at all.

”I understand these things between young couples.” Shen Lao coughed heavily twice, ”Shuci is staying with her mother tonight, I’m sleeping here, you might as well...”

”Just make do with me for the night, I have something I want to discuss with you.”

Sleeping in the same room with his father-in-law, even if he didn’t want to, he had to make do.

The questions Shen Lao asked were mostly about his future plans and intentions. The old man respected his career but also cared for his daughter, ”...you should know, I fundamentally disagree with Shuci being with you.”

”I understand.” Huo Qinqi was still grateful in his heart that the old man could be honest with him.

”But she likes you, and being with you, I can feel her change.” The old man couldn’t bear to break up the couple, ”Even so, I still don’t like you.”

Huo Qinqi: ”...”

...

They talked until past midnight. At that hour, there wasn’t much to watch on TV aside from a legal channel replaying daytime programs. The old man was happy and couldn’t sleep, and Huo Qinqi could only keep him company.

Then suddenly there was a case on TV about a man’s tragic story as a live-in son-in-law, discriminated against by his father-in-law’s family, ending in a violent confrontation with fatal consequences.

”Huo Qinqi?”

”Hmm?”

”Do you think I’m just a stubborn old man? Do you hate me for it?”

”No.”

”That’s good.” Shen Lao nodded in relief.

**

Originally, the guest room for Shen Family’s elder couple was vacated as Tang Wan had already returned to his room. He drank too much tonight, was unusually happy, and got drunk to the point of being barely conscious. His brothers were at a loss, as he usually couldn’t hold his liquor but insisted on pushing his limits. Being drunk, they would normally just throw him back to his room...

The problem was Tang Wan was pregnant, making it inconvenient for her to care for him.

Making him drunk, and still needing to take care of him, for what good reason?

Shen Shuci chatted with the grandmother for a long time. Before going to sleep, she texted Huo Qinqi, saying she was going to rest, and asked if he had gone back to rest too.

The reply was: [Already resting.]

With Shen Lao right next to him, even if he wanted to call Shen Shuci, it wouldn’t have been appropriate.

That night, everyone seemed to be having a good time. Jiang Chengsi took Jiang Shiyi back to his room, then went out again with Qi Zeyan to sing karaoke until past midnight. Without Huo Qinqi keeping things in check, Huo Ran, the ’mighty beast,’ was unleashed, following his idol’s lead, cheering him on until his voice was hoarse...

The next day, when staff went to the room, they found a group of men sprawled there, with Qi Zeyan and Jiang Chengsi hugging shoulder to shoulder— the scene was quite a sight.

Jiang Chengsi was known to be grumpy upon waking, and the staff didn’t dare to wake him, so they let them sleep.
