Chapter 264: 186 Entering the hall at night, I didn’t expect the operation could be so tricky (2nd update)_2

“Just like that!” Jiangjiang laughed, revealing his small canines, cute and well-behaved.

Jiangjiang wasn’t picky about where he slept, the so-called insomnia was merely to suck up to his good-for-nothing dad. He’d stabbed him figuratively at lunch with an insult, and his dad immediately retaliated with a glass of carrot juice. He knew his place; after all, you can’t keep poking a tiger’s rear.

Moreover, he needed to maintain an image of being well-behaved and sensible in front of his mom.

“You can’t sleep without me?” Jiang Yanting said with a light sneer, well aware of his son’s true character.

In the past, after running wild with Qi Zeyan or Jiang Chengsi, the moment he took him home, he’d cry and wail, even calling him a devil. And now he’s saying he can’t be without him?

He must be joking!

“Yes!” Jiangjiang smiled ingratiatingly.

“Since you think you can’t sleep without me, then I’ll stay tonight and sleep with you.”

…

Jiangjiang’s face fell, and Shen Zhixian was also shocked.

Her place only had a single bed, enough for a child, and she was worried Jiangjiang might accidentally fall off during the night. It certainly couldn’t fit three people.

“I only have…” Shen Zhixian furrowed her brows.

“No worries, I’ll sleep on the sofa,” Jiang Yanting said directly, “Jiangjiang rarely stays overnight, I really can’t rest easy.”

Jiangjiang was dumbfounded: How can a deadbeat dad spout such nonsense!

He’d even had himself dropped off at his uncle’s, and yet he says he’s worried?

“You and Jiangjiang sleep inside, I’ll be right outside. Call me if you need anything.”

Having Jiang Yanting sleep on the sofa made Shen Zhixian feel somewhat bad, especially since her apartment was small—two single sofas, one double, and with his height around 185 cm, he couldn’t even stretch out properly on them; it was truly a bit pitiful.

“But here…” Shen Zhixian bit her lip, “It’s too uncomfortable for you.”

Jiangjiang clenched his fists:

Mom, come on, kick this deadbeat dad out.

Yet, just then, he saw Jiang Yanting lean close to Shen Zhixian’s ear, lowering his voice. He couldn’t hear what they were saying, only saw Shen Zhixian’s eyes light up, “…Well, okay, but I might not have prepared toiletries or a change of clothes for you.”

“I’ve brought my own.”

Shen Zhixian reluctantly nodded; she had thought the luggage contained Jiangjiang’s things, but it even had his own stuff. Well…

He obviously wasn’t planning on leaving!

Jiang Yanting raised an eyebrow, “If you really find it inconvenient, then I can leave.”

Jiangjiang was amazed, his deadbeat dad was actually backing down, he was overjoyed, but then Shen Zhixian actually invited him to stay, “It’s fine, stay, I’ll go find you a blanket.”

Jiangjiang was completely dumbfounded: Could someone tell him what exactly was going on?

“Can I take a shower?” Jiang Yanting asked Shen Zhixian, who was laying out his bedding.

“Yes, but the bathroom is small and the floor is slippery, just be careful.”

Then Jiang Yanting took his clothes and toiletries and went into the bathroom.

This was just a small one-bedroom apartment, a living room, a bedroom, and a bathroom that was closely connected to the bedroom…

Shen Zhixian finished preparing the bed for Jiang Yanting and leaned against it, ready to tell Jiangjiang a bedtime story.

“These are all books your dad brought, what would you like to hear?” Jiang Yanting indeed brought some things for Jiangjiang.

While flipping through the books, Shen Zhixian kept glancing towards the bathroom, unable to ignore the continuous sound of running water.

“Anything is fine.”

“Then we’ll go with ‘The Little Mermaid’…”

But as Shen Zhixian reached the ending, Jiangjiang interrupted her, “The ending is wrong.”

“What do you mean ‘wrong’?” It was a widely known story, and even without the book, Shen Zhixian could recount the plot accurately, she couldn’t have remembered the ending incorrectly.

“Dad said that The Little Mermaid finally stabbed the Prince to death and then returned to the sea.”

“…” Shen Zhixian’s mouth twitched.

“Uncle said that Daddy was hurt here,” Jiangjiang pointed to his own heart.

Shen Zhixian forced a smile. Could he be hinting at her? Even so, how could he talk about such things to a child!

“Let’s change the story…”
