Pampered by Short-Lived Bigshot

When the two walked out of Qi Zeyan’s office, he couldn’t help but ask, “Xiaoruan, you’ve seemed quite different lately?”

Ruan Mengxi’s heart skipped a beat, feigning composure, “Different in what way?”

“You feel different, as if something joyful is happening.”

“It might be because the New Year holidays are drawing near, and I’m happy about it.”

Xiaozhu nodded; he was in a hurry to head to Xie Company, so he didn’t probe further.

That evening after work, she was driving Qi Zeyan home and would get to be alone with him again. Ruan Mengxi hummed a little tune as she returned to the office.

Her current persona definitely differed from before. Work used to feel enforced, dreadful, and miserable. Now, it was different. Every day she could see the person she liked, and work felt like being in love. Surely, she was delightfully happy.

Recently, the weather forecast predicted rain and snow, and as the work from earlier in the year had mostly been dealt with, Qi Zeyan finished work relatively early these days.

Ruan Mengxi, while driving, adjusted her seat first before Qi Zeyan settled into the passenger seat, catching a glance at her and couldn’t help but chuckle quietly.

Short legs!

Before, he was just her boss, whom she respected from the bottom of her heart. Now, with this new affection, she somehow felt a bit nervous.

Familiarity bred ease; driving his car wasn’t as reckless as the first time.

However, halfway through the journey, Qi Zeyan’s phone rang, “Hello—Miss Xie.”

Hearing it was Miss Xie, Ruan Mengxi instantly tensed up.

“…No problem, I’ve already taken care of it… Dinner? I’ve already headed home…”

Ruan Mengxi couldn’t hear what the other person said, but after Qi Zeyan hung up, he simply stated, “I’m not going home. Exit the highway here and head to the west of the city…”

“Are you going on a date?” Ruan Mengxi couldn’t hold back anymore.

Qi Zeyan raised an eyebrow at her, and she immediately focused on driving, “Sorry, I spoke out of turn.”

As a subordinate, asking such questions really was an overstep.

Qi Zeyan didn’t get angry but instead turned his head and asked her, “If I wanted to reject a girl, what way do you think is better?”

Ruan Mengxi thought of what Xiaozhu had mentioned to her before; this Miss Xie liked their boss. But it seemed that Qi Zeyan genuinely did not fancy her, and probably wanted to clear things up during this meeting.

“Be straightforward, don’t leave things ambiguous,” Ruan Mengxi said directly.

After all, a lurking “rival” needs to be dealt with swiftly and decisively, not sparing any.

“I’ve hinted to her politely before, she just said neither of us is married, it’s not like she wants something specific, just to remain friends.”

Qi Zeyan clearly understood Ruan Mengxi’s point, as these were the contours of the conversation he’d indirectly mentioned before while dropping her home after a matchmaking date.

“Do you really not like her?” Ruan Mengxi ventured.

“She’s not my type.”

And he believed he still hadn’t moved on from a past heartbreak.

“The main issue is that you don’t have any scandals or a girlfriend, so she thinks she has a chance…”

“I know, but I can’t simply conjure up a girlfriend to completely dispel her hopes.”

As Qi Zeyan’s voice fell, Ruan Mengxi softly coughed.

If he wanted…

She could be his girlfriend!
