“It’s you who didn’t want me to look, saying it will distract your driving.”

Wen Ran opened her eyes and protested discontentedly.

“You might as well keep watching me, at least, it’s better than you closing your eyes.”

Mo Xiuchen sighed. She was more distracting when her eyes were shut.

“Okay, I’ll keep you company. Xiuchen, you aren’t nervous about the medical exam later, are you?”

Wen Ran looked at his hand gripping the steering wheel. It seemed like he was putting a lot of effort into it.

“How could I be?”

Mo Xiuchen gave a laugh. However, this laughter looked somewhat unnatural and forced to Wen Ran, making her heart tighten slightly.

“Xiuchen, I feel that something is off about Little Liu helping Tong Shishi with her mother’s funeral arrangements.”

Wen Ran introduced a change of topic.

“You think so too?”

Mo Xiuchen’s lips curled into a gentle smile as he looked tenderly at Wen Ran.

Wen Ran raised her eyebrows thoughtfully. “Hmm, I think, Liu seems like he’s contradicting himself, struggling. Did Tong Shishi say something to him again? Mo Zixuan could never get involved with her again after what happened, but Liu seems to be helping her without any regard for past grievances.”

“Not every woman is easily moved.”

Mo Xiuchen concluded lightly.

Even if Tong Shishi really did say something to Little Liu, he wouldn’t believe it.

Her past actions are obvious and just the other day, Ranran mentioned what Tong Shishi said to her in the restroom that night.

“I know. But does Little Liu know?”

Wen Ran was worried that Little Liu was too honest. If Tong Shishi proposed to start over, he might agree, given his genuine feelings for her.

The thing about feelings is, there’s no rhyme or reason. Even if the whole world finds her unsuitable, he will believe that she’s good!

Mo Xiuchen’s gaze followed a complex thought, then he fell silent. His voice quietly rose, “If Little Liu wants to do so, we can’t stop him. It’s only when he gets hurt himself, will he know to turn back.”

“Poor Little Liu.”

Wen Ran sighed lightly. Little Liu is so honest; he’s just not a match for Tong Shishi.

“He needs to be taken advantage of to wise up, stop worrying about him. Let him do as he pleases.”

After what happened with Cheng Jia, Mo Xiuchen did not want to make decisions for Little Liu anymore. He figured as long as he was around, the worst Tong Shishi could do was cheat him out of some money or feelings. If she went too far, then he would step in to stop her.

“That’s really the only option. If we interfere with his feelings all the time, even if he doesn’t air his objections, he’ll still be uncomfortable with it.”

Everyone wants to make their own decisions, especially in matters of the heart. Even if parents or relatives meddle, it wouldn’t be appropriate. Initially when Mo Xiuchen suggested that Liu and Cheng Jia be together, he already made a decision on his behalf.

“Ranran, time to get out of the car!”

The Aston pulled into Kangning Hospital’s designated parking spot. Mo Xiuchen got out of the car and personally opened the door for Wen Ran, his brows knitted in a smile as he watched her.

Wen Ran got out of the car with a smile, taking his arm with her hand. With shared smiles, they headed towards the hospital’s main entrance.

Mo Xiuchen was feeling genuinely nervous.

However, this nervousness was not for himself, but for Ranran.

At the entrance of the hospital, doctors Gu Kai and Shen Yuting were waiting. Seeing them walking over, hurt flashed through Shen Yuting’s eyes, quickly hidden by a brilliant smile.

“Yuting, I’ll leave Ranran to you.”

Gu Kai’s voice was low as he whispered instructions.

After Shen Yuting left his office yesterday, he hesitated for a long time. He intended to find an excuse to get her out of the hospital today. But his father, Gu Yan, felt Yuting was a woman with a strong sense of self-esteem, and asking her to leave might upset her.

If it backfires, it could make things even worse.

So, better to leave Ranran with her.

Gu Kai thought his father made sense, so he ditched the idea of having Shen Yuting leave the hospital for the day, opting to wait by the entrance with her for Mo Xiuchen and Wen Ran instead.

“Ranran, you’re finally here. The cousin and I have been standing here in the cold winds for over ten minutes.”
