Liora realized the wolverine was currently regenerating. She saw the impressive construction continuing and assumed the beast had mana to spare. He only needed to make 5 more stakes to complete the arsenal of 10 projectiles.

And then he could use his increasingly tall towers to trap the serpent in the sky, a three-dimensional launch structure that would convert the open space the Bashe had been using as advantage into a cage where escape would be nearly impossible.

The geometry was already established. 4 corners plus 1 center gave 5 firing positions. 10 stakes meant 2 volleys, first volley to establish the network and compel the Bashe into defensive posture, second volley to overwhelm it while it was dealing with the first.

Or maybe heʼd fire all 10 simultaneously. Liora couldnʼt be sure. That uncertainty was an advantage for Ren in itself, she had to prepare for multiple scenarios, couldnʼt commit fully to any single defensive strategy.

The towers kept growing.

175 meters. 180 meters. 185 meters.

The Bashe continued ascending, purple coils spiraling upward as it maintained distance from the structures below.

And everyone watched with mounting anticipation to see exactly how the confrontation between massive construction and spiritual flotation would culminate.

”Theyʼre almost there already... And still climbing.”

The question hung in the air, unspoken but present in everyoneʼs mind:

And if they did, what would happen when there was nowhere left to climb?

From the city streets, citizens were stopping to stare at the structures rising impossibly high above the arena walls. Conversations paused mid-sentence, work halted and children pointed upward with wide eyes.

The towers had become landmarks, temporary monuments to a level of elemental control most would never witness in person.

And Ren was about to finish the second half of the launch stakes.

Liora could sense through her honed perception that the wolverineʼs mana fluctuated in patterns suggesting elemental constructions reaching completion. In moments heʼd have all 10 stakes ready and then would execute a coordinated attack that would be nearly impossible to avoid from the Basheʼs position, especially since she couldnʼt climb higher anymore.

The ceiling had been reached. Literally and metaphorically.

She decided this was the precise moment sheʼd been waiting for, an opening that wouldnʼt present itself again once Ren completed his preparations.

The Wolverine was still on the base regenerating!

She required to attack one of the towers now while they were still in the construction phase, before they solidified completely and before the stakes were positioned at her same altitude for launching. That way she could waste part of the massive energy Ren had invested in creating them, compel him to rebuild or adjust his strategy that seemed to involve some kind of strange cage.

The geometry was obvious once you understood what he was building. 5 towers at different positions, each capable of firing 2 stakes. That created a kill zone, overlapping fields of fire that left almost no safe space to dodge. Move left, stakes from the right towers tracked you. Move right, left towers had clear shots. Try to climb, you hit the height limit. Try to descend, you moved into denser crossfire.

Brilliant. Terrifying. Completely like Ren to turn the entire battlefield into a mathematical problem with only one solution: lose.

Unless she disrupted it first.

She had 2 main options for executing the attack.

She could use the Basheʼs enormous body, which had grown considerably after absorbing previous attacks, and simply break one of the towers with brute force of massive impact.

Just ram it. 40+ meters of serpent moving at full speed would generate devastating kinetic energy. Enough force to shatter compressed earth, bring the whole structure tumbling down in a cascade of debris.

Or she could launch ranged magic, bombard the structures with mana until they collapsed under accumulated damage.

Safer. More controlled. Less commitment required if things went wrong.
