After Cheng Dongge calmly thought it through, he supposed that he started a relationship with Huang Ziyue because he was touched by her persistence in the beginning, and thought that it was worth a try. He engaged with her later as he felt that he needed to be responsible. However, they had been together for three years now and it was time to straighten things out.

He had never truly fallen in love with her.

Maybe he was truly fond of her, but the feeling was different from what he felt towards Qi Chengyue.

In reality, this was a huge world with countless individuals. How many of us could meet the one special person in our lives who could think and feel the way true lovers do?

Most of us would make do with someone whom we felt affection toward; otherwise, we might never find the love we fantasize about for the rest of our lives.

“I saw you confess to Qi Chengyue on the news the other day, and I was heartbroken. That was when I knew that I would be unable to let you go. I knew you did that because, as Qi Chengzhi’s assistant, you were obligated to help Qi Chengyue out. Despite that, I still felt heartsore because I had lost something that once belonged to me. I found that I have always loved you, and it is impossible for me to let you go,” said Huang Xinyue earnestly.

Cheng Dongge frowned and looked at the rearview mirror. He saw that Huang Xinyue’s face was full of regret and sorrow. He had never realized that she was so good at talking to herself.

Initially, she had thought that he despised her, but, now that she had mentioned that his confession had just been a temporary measure to help Qi Chengyue out, she seemed to disregard the things he had said before.

“I knew I had been mistaken and lost my bearings, but now I’ve figured it out. Dongge, if I were to break up with Gao Jingqiu, could you forgive me and be with me again? I know I’ve hurt you, probably to the point where you can’t trust me like you did before. But I believe that, in time, I will prove myself to you again. It’s okay if we don’t get engaged or never wed. This time, I’ll prove to you that I will never betray you again.” Huang Xinyue was sitting in the backseat, to the side of Cheng Dongge, looking at him yearningly.

“You came to see me because you wanted to tell me this?” Cheng Dongge asked indifferently.

Huang Xinyue lowered her head and spoke softly. “At first, I planned to have a meal with you, but I know that you are still angry with me, so I might as well tell you now. It may not be good timing, but I really needed you to know.”

Cheng Dongge took a glance at the roadside. This place was far enough from Qilin, it was unlikely that they would be seen by his colleagues, so he stopped his car by the curb and said, “Get out.”

After saying that, he exited first.

Huang Xinyue thought Cheng Dongge was going to bring her to a café or the like. She took a look at the street nearby and saw a few shops which had quite nice appearances. This cleared her doubts. She came out of the car too.

Unexpectedly, Cheng Dongge opened the door of the driver’s seat and nodded at her coolly. “Goodbye.”

He then shut the door and drove away before she could get back inside in time.

Huang Xinyue stood there, mouth agape and speechless, watching him drive his Touareg farther and farther away. Once the car was out of sight, she looked around and decided to take a taxi; but it would be very difficult to get a taxi at this time of day.

…

…

Cheng Dongge drove his car to the entrance of his residential area but did not enter. He stopped his car by the road and phoned his neighbor.

“Uncle Zhang, it’s me, Cheng Dongge,” said Cheng. “Are you still sawing wood downstairs?”

His neighbor, Uncle Zhang, had retired and did not have any other hobby besides carpentry. He would be sawing wood into pieces to be made into small tables or shelves on his long bench downstairs for the whole day, regardless of the seasons of the year.

“Still there? That’s great, Can you help me to look for an Audi TT. It’s silver in color, and the plate number is N3633,” said Cheng Dongge.

Qi Chengyue was a forthcoming person and usually wore a candid expression, so it was easy to predict her actions.

She surely could not restrain herself after seeing him with Huang Xinyue. There was a 90 percent chance that she would be waiting at his house for him to return.
