When Zhao Youxi heard the sound of a car engine outside, she instantly got up from the couch and went up to it.

“Father, Mother, why are you guys back so soon? H-Have you brought my elder sister along to apologize to President Mu? What did President Mu say?”

Zhao Youxi’s warm greeting was not returned with the same loving responses from her parents. Not only that, her father who had always been pampering her even put on a straight face and walked past her, seemingly disregarding her existence.

Zhao Youxi froze in place. Immediately after, she saw Li Hongyu who followed closely behind Zhao Shuncheng complaining to him, “Shuncheng, let’s talk this through. There’s no need to vent out your anger on Youxi. Look, you’ve scared her out!”

It would have been better had Li Hongyu remained silent. The moment she spat the words out, it was as if she had ignited gunpowder. The next moment, Zhao Shuncheng exploded. He simply picked up anything within his reach on the table and smashed it to the ground. He said, “I have yet to settle the accounts with you! How dare you even say it’s me who’s at fault first?!”

The sound of the ceramics shattering into pieces in the living hall rang out. Both Zhao Youxi and Li Hongyu were caught off guard by his sudden reaction.

Zhao Youxi had never experienced this before. She hurriedly held Li Hongyu’s hand and asked, “Mother, what’s happening? Why is Father suddenly so angry? Did Young Master Mu shut you out when you all went there to offer apologies?”

“We never even got the chance to make a trip to Young Master Mu’s house. Forget about it. What matters most is to comfort your father first,” Li Hongyu heaved a sigh and silently formed an alliance with her daughter. The next moment she turned and cried in front of Zhao Shuncheng.

“Settle the accounts with me? How dare you actually talk about settling accounts with me?! Shuncheng, how could you do this to me? I’ve been with you for many years. I’ve even given birth to our two children, Youxi and Youming. Although I haven’t succeeded in anything yet, at least I’ve been working very hard for all these years. Who would have thought that even after all the hardships I’ve been through, I still ended up being called a mistress by a younger generation on the street. I might as well end my life rather than having to endure such humiliation at this age of mine…”

Li Hongyu was a civilian woman without a powerful background. Back then, she was a mere femme fatale working in a pub. One had to admit that her acting skills were truly beyond words. They should be given all the credits for helping her all the way up to her current position. Her tears streamed down like pouring rain without the slightest hint of stopping.

Zhao Youxi was shocked the moment she heard her mother’s words and exclaimed, “Mistress? Mother, who dared to call you so?”

“Who else could it be? She’s none other than your elder sister. I long knew that she had been dissatisfied with me because of her mother’s issue. However, I never expected she would actually treat me like this. She even told your father that I’ve abused her… that’s very… I raised her up, anyone could have let bygones be bygones after all these years. Little did I know she’s actually an ungrateful brat!”

“That w-w…” Zhao Youxi burst with anger as soon as she heard Li Hongyu’s words. She nearly wanted to cuss her over social media. However, Li Hongyu saw this coming. She hurriedly held her arm and delivered a hint by winking at her.

The cursing words immediately got caught in Zhao Youxi’s throat. She seemed to realize something. Her expression changed. Within an instant, her expression turned to become as sorrowful as her mother. She cried out in deep despair, “Elder sister, why must that person be you…? How could you say that…? All this while, Mother has been good to you… How could you turn a blind eye to all this?”

Zhao Shuncheng’s heart clenched when he heard the conversation between the mother and daughter behind him. He turned his head around and was greeted by the sight of his wife and daughter leaning close to each other. Their eyes were red. His heart was moved a little more. Finally, he could not help but say, “Alright, stop crying. The matter is over. We still need to think of a way to handle the Mu family.”
