Yan Lili could not sleep that night.

Di Shanshi couldn’t sleep, too.

Di Shanshi told his mother about his plans when he and Mayor Di returned home. Mrs. Di strongly objected to Di Shanshi’s decision.

“No way,” his mother disagreed. “Shi, you know how much your father and I have invested in your education. And now you’re telling me that you don’t want to go to college? Have you forgotten? You only just told your father and I last month that your goal is Capital University.”

Di Shanshi remembered that, of course. The reason why he wanted to go to Capital University was he desired to go to the same school as Ye Tianxin.

Now, he wanted to put off going to college because he felt that there was something more important to do.

“Mom, this is a decision I have come to after much thought.”

Di Shanshi was firm. He wouldn’t be swayed.

“Mom, there are many famous people abroad who never went to college but managed to make extraordinary achievements in their chosen fields. Mom, I can also have extraordinary achievements in the field that I like. Perhaps, one day, I will become the richest person in our country. Even if I can’t be the richest man in the country, I can make our hometown prosperous. Wouldn’t that be even better?”

Mrs. Di shook her head in disapproval.

She was firm, too, in her refusal.

“Absolutely not! Shi, you have to take the college entrance examinations. You can do whatever you want after you graduate from college, and I will support you in everything you do then. But right now, I won’t allow you to make such a decision!”

Mrs. Di felt that a wrong decision would affect Di Shanshi for life.

She had never asked for her son to become the richest man in the country.

She had also never asked for her son to become somebody important.

Her only hope was that her son could be like other children. She hoped that her son would study hard, get a good job, and have a bright future.

“Dad, Mom, I have already decided. I don’t want to lead the life of most people. Furthermore, I can guarantee you both that I can be good at my chosen field even without obtaining a degree.”

“Go ahead and give up the college entrance examinations if you want me to die!” Mrs. Di warned. “If you dare skip the exams, that will be the last time you’ll ever see me!”

Mrs. Di turned and walked away.

Mayor Di went to the room and comforted his wife. “Darling, Shi didn’t know what he was talking about. He was acting on impulse…”

“It’s all your fault. Why didn’t you stop our son when he had such thoughts?”

Mayor Di did not know how or what to tell his wife. That proposal was really very good. If they used it well, it would be especially beneficial to the town of Jiameng.

He was the mayor of the town.

He could not just focus on what was before him.

He had to think ahead.

He had to consider the future of the town of Jiameng.

The Di family did not sleep well that night.

The next day, Di Shanshi went to school with dark circles under his eyes. He had just sat down when Li Xiaohui turned around and looked at him.

“Have you heard? The mock exam results have been released!”

Di Shanshi was stunned. They had only just finished the exams yesterday, and the results were already out.

“That fast?”

Li Xiaohui nodded. She glanced at Ye Tianxin’s desk and said, “I am very worried about Tianxin’s grades!”

Ye Youran came to school early. She appeared to be very confident, and Li Xiaohui could not help but worry for Ye Tianxin.
