When Ruan Xueling saw Gu Yang return, she paused the conversation and turned to Ning Gui. “Gui, weren’t you looking for Yangyang? She’s back now.”

Ning Gui breathed a sigh of relief. Gu Yang was finally home. Having grown accustomed to her social anxiety, she found Aunt Ruan’s enthusiastic chatter to be even more challenging than tackling physics projects.

“Ning Gui, why did you want to see me?” Gu Yang asked.

As university roommates who often shared a dorm, Ning Gui felt at ease with Gu Yang’s gentle and amiable nature. She approached Gu Yang and said softly, “I wanted to talk to you about my illness.”

Understanding that treating a patient was a private matter, Gu Yang placed her phone on the table to charge. She informed Ruan Xueling and Gu Jin, who were in the living room, before heading upstairs with Ning Gui.

...
Feng Jue followed, intending to charge his phone as well. With their two identical phones placed side by side, it was hard for anyone to miss the resemblance.

Ruan Xueling noticed and raised an eyebrow. “Eh, when did you get a new phone?”

Feng Jue replied obediently, “This is the new design from Dream Seeking Group. Sister and I are trying it out first.”

The more Ruan Xueling looked at Feng Jue, the more satisfied she became. She thought to herself that her future son-in-law, who had grown up before their eyes, was indeed quite sensible.

Turning around, Feng Jue caught sight of Gu Jin looking at him coldly. He smirked, his eyes gleaming with pride. “Couple models—are you envious?”

Gu Jin couldn’t shake the feeling that this dog was just asking for trouble again.

Gu Yang led Ning Gui to the piano room and closed the door. Sitting down at the piano, she began playing a light piece while softly speaking to Ning Gui. “Ning Gui, you want to talk about your feelings for Ning Shen, right?”

Ning Gui lowered her head, humming softly in response.

Gu Yang had a good grasp of the complicated relationship between Ning Gui and Ning Shen.

Having assisted with Ning Shen’s psychiatric treatment, she understood the situation even more deeply.

Ning Gui felt frustrated, realizing that her feelings toward Ning Shen were not purely hatred; they were laced with something indescribable. This complexity left her feeling frustrated and ashamed, as if she were experiencing Stockholm Syndrome.

“Yangyang, can you treat Stockholm Syndrome?” she asked.

Gu Yang continued to play the piano, her gentle voice blending seamlessly with the music. “Do you love him?”

As the melody flowed, Ning Gui’s feelings of frustration and depression began to ease. With the calming music, she felt ready to confront her heart honestly.

Hearing Gu Yang’s question, Ning Gui replied without hesitation, “No!”

Gu Yang pressed on, “Do you like him?”

Ning Gui hesitated for a moment. “I think so, a little.”

Gu Yang understood. Ning Gui had a slight fondness for Ning Shen, but it was mixed with guilt. She believed that this attraction was wrong and felt she shouldn’t have any good feelings for him.

As Gu Yang finished the piano piece, she moved in front of Ning Gui and gently rubbed her head. “You don’t have to feel guilty. This is completely normal.”

Ning Gui was taken aback, looking at Gu Yang in shock. Even her mother had insisted she shouldn’t like Ning Shen. Yet here was Gu Yang saying it was normal?

“I know,” Gu Yang continued. “Ever since your mother married into the Ning family, Ning Shen has restricted you a lot. He cut off all your normal social interactions.”

She paused, choosing her words carefully. “The only boy you’ve ever really interacted with is Ning Shen. He’s young, handsome, and he likes you. It’s natural to be attracted to him. You shouldn’t feel burdened by that.”

“But… Yangyang, you don’t understand. He pushed the friend I brought home down the stairs and killed him.” Ning Gui trembled at the thought.

Gu Yang looked at her and said, “Ning Gui, I’ve treated Ning Shen’s illness before. He has a serious split personality, which means that there’s a second personality in his body.”
