Chapter 2815: Chapter 2824: Trouble Hits the Harper Family

Half a day later, General Harper was suddenly quietly taken away from the military district by the prosecutors.

Immediately after, the prosecutors took people from the Harper Family at the Ministry of Finance one by one for various reasons, plunging the Harper Family into chaos.

Old Lady Harper and Mrs. Harper cried their hearts out; the Old Lady, because of her age, couldn’t withstand such a blow and almost fainted several times.

Fortunately, the family doctor was in the compound and immediately administered an IV drip to Old Lady Harper, preventing any incidents.

The entire household was overshadowed with gloom and doom, with the end written all over everyone’s faces.

Accustomed to being the spoiled child, Austin Harper initially couldn’t believe it and impulsively wanted to cause a scene at the prosecutor’s office. But he was slapped by Mrs. Harper and dragged back into the house by the sobbing Mrs. Harper.

The house was filled with cries, and if not cries, then the sound of phone calls, and no one paid him any attention.

He sat bewilderedly on the sofa for an hour, unable to stand it any longer, gritted his teeth, and took out his phone to scroll through it.

His phone contacts were filled with the wining and dining friends he usually hung out with, but now with the family in trouble, he didn’t know who to call. After much hesitation, he humiliatingly called the son of the Deputy Director of the Ministry of Justice.

The phone barely rang once before it was immediately hung up.

Austin Harper couldn’t believe it and called again.

”Damn it! What the hell! When you needed me, you called me Dad; now that you hear my family is in trouble, you won’t even answer the phone.” He was infuriated, and raised his hand, about to smash the phone as he would in his old temper.

But hearing the cries in the house, he gritted his teeth and held back. Picking up the phone again, he sternly went through his contact list, calling every number in it.

Half an hour later, either they directly didn’t answer, or if they did, upon hearing he needed help, they immediately found excuses to brush him off.

In just thirty minutes, he witnessed the coldness of the world and saw enough of humanity’s hypocritical faces.

When the 18th person said they were abroad and couldn’t help, Austin Harper finally couldn’t hold back, ”To hell with your abroad, I saw you at the bar last night. I’m just asking if you’ll help me this time! If not, don’t ever say you’re my friend again!”

The person on the other end wasn’t flustered at being exposed, casually saying, ”I’ve got no choice now that I’ve been found out. Young Master Harper, we’re just a group that hangs out, chatting nonsense. It’s too serious to call it friendship; we’re at most acquaintances.”

”Acquaintances, my ass! Last time when you borrowed money to pay off your gambling debt, what did you say? That we’re brothers for life, and if I ever needed your help, you’d go through fire and water for me!” Austin Harper growled in anger.

The person on the other end snorted, not even bothering to pretend, saying, ”Didn’t I pay you back later and even treat you to a meal? What more do you want? Alright, I need to get busy, no time to argue with you. Bye.”

”Screw off! Don’t ever contact me again.”

”Fine, won’t contact you.” That person hung up the phone briskly, even quicker than he did.

Austin Harper was left suffocating, his entire body trembling with anger.

Damn it! These people, proclaiming good friends, good friends, but when it really matters, they all shrink back like tortoises! Not a single one stood up to help!

In the room, there was still the sound of Old Lady Harper’s choking sobs, the whole house in disarray. He collapsed onto the sofa, knees drawn up, head buried in them, clutching his head, consumed by agony.
