Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 2295: Chapter 2231: This Is Way Too Plain

Meng Xinian was willing to be bossed around by her.

He immediately turned around and headed out to invite Old Yang and his wife.

But as he stepped out the door, he saw Chen Yujun and a few others carrying something upstairs.

Meng Xinian ignored them and went straight to the Yang Family.

”Old Man Yang, Aunt Yang, let’s go, Little will soon have the dishes ready.”

Earlier, they left to let Old Yang and his wife talk things out.

These past few days have been tough for them both; it’s impressive how they’ve been carrying such heavy burdens in their hearts while acting like it’s nothing, smiling all day.

When Meng Xinian walked in, the elderly couple had actually changed into new clothes, looking like they had tidied up a bit.

He couldn’t help but be taken aback.

”What’s the occasion?”

”These are clothes we only wear during New Year’s. Our daughter-in-law made them for us just before the New Year, and we’ve only worn them once. How do we look? Grand, right?” Old Yang was evidently in much better spirits now.

Meng Xinian scoffed.

”You two think we’re going to a wedding or something?” He unceremoniously teased, ”It’s just a simple meal next door, what’s with all this dressing up?”

Making it seem so fancy; he’s just wearing his everyday clothes.

The old geezer better not outshine him, or later his girl will complain, thinking he didn’t care about her first visit at all.

Truthfully, Great Officer Meng, you’re overthinking.

”Mind your own business! You stole my tomatoes, and I haven’t held you accountable yet. If it weren’t for Xiao Chiang, I wouldn’t even want to go to your place.” Old Yang snorted.

”Alright, alright, what are you two bickering about again? Let’s hurry up.” Aunt Yang waved her hand, ”I’m hungry!”

Hearing her say she’s hungry so openly, Old Yang’s nose tinged sour.

Meng Xinian turned around, ”Let’s go, let’s go, there’s plenty of rice. But, Old Man Yang, you can only eat a little bit of rice, drink more soup; I made a special batch just for you.”

It’s primarily because that soup contains a lot of Spirit Spring Water.

This is how Chiang Xiao pays special attention, making sure Old Yang gets to drink more Spiritual Spring during meal time.

Otherwise, if the Spring Water was just plain, it’d taste too distinctly compared to the sweet and crisp tap water available here.

So Chiang Xiao told him she’d be cooking soup for Old Yang every day while she’s here.

Chiang Xiao brought out the food.

Meng Xinian doesn’t have a designated dining table; they just eat at the coffee table.

She looked around and realized there was only a two-seater sofa, and there weren’t any chairs. How is that enough?

Just as she was thinking about borrowing some from Old Yang’s side, Chen Yujun and the others were already at the door.

Chiang Xiao paused for a moment.

Dai Gang stepped forward, called out, ”Sister-in-law.”

”What are you all up to?”

Chen Yujun glanced at the table with a few dishes, mostly vegetarian, clearly grown on the rooftop, and lacking fine ingredients. His view of Chiang Xiao subtly changed.

Looks like this girl really listens to Meng Xinian, not daring to be demanding at all.

For a first visit, it’s just these dishes: stir-fried cabbage, stir-fried green beans, stir-fried sponge gourd, stir-fried eggs, and tomato egg soup.

Does the egg count as meat?

This is still her first visit, and she’s so much younger than Meng Xinian, she should be acting spoiled.

Turns out Meng Xinian must have bullied her; this poor girl probably just endures whatever comes from him, right?

They were even planning to apologize, worried this girl might even know about Meng Xinian possibly considering other girls, but still wouldn’t dare to make a fuss?
