Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1047: Chapter 1048: There’s a Drama Queen

Drama queen, you’re right.

”You don’t need to bother about her, or Meng Chaojun either. The key to my room is with Grandpa; let him give it to you. In the third drawer of the wardrobe in my room, there’s a leather-covered notebook, you can take it out and have a look.”

”A leather-covered notebook? What’s written in it?”

Chiang Xiao asked curiously.

Why did he specifically ask her to look at that leather notebook?

”There are a few of my old photos inside.”

Pfft.

Was this specifically for her to look at his photos?

What a narcissistic person! She thought it was something extremely important.

”What’s there to see in that!”

”That notebook is also my diary, giving you a chance to understand me better.”

A diary?

He actually kept a diary?

Upon hearing that, Chiang Xiao really became curious.

However, she had yet to tell him about Meng Chaojun. ”Brother Xinian, Uncle was just sent to the hospital. He was feeling headache, dizziness, chest tightness, and a bit of nausea. Doctor Lu checked him and suggested that he should be taken to the hospital.”

After she finished speaking, Meng Xinian suddenly fell silent.

Chiang Xiao held the handset, not urging him to speak, just waiting for him.

After a moment, Meng Xinian’s voice finally came again, sounding calm and unruffled, ”So now it’s just you alone there?”

”Yes.”

”A bit more comfortable, right? Don’t worry about anything and go upstairs. Are you not going back to school since it’s so late?”

”Grandpa asked me to stay here over the weekend,” Chiang Xiao said. ”Also, he insisted I buy a lot of things—curtains, dressers, and even floral duvet covers and sheets—to give your room a complete makeover. The items should be arriving soon; I couldn’t even refuse.”

Listening to her talk about these changes, Meng Xinian suddenly felt a strong desire to return to Capital, to the Meng Family residence he had not set foot in for years.

Years had passed, and that residence once again stirred in him the impulse to return.

Because of her, the cold and sharp scars in those memories suddenly seemed to matter less.

”Old Man Meng is clever in this respect,” he said in a low voice.

Only he could instantly understand Old Meng’s intentions.

Old Man Meng certainly knew that only by doing so could he invoke in him the desire to return home.

With Chiang Xiaoxiao there, his room had become their room, and that house became soft and warm for him again.

Hearing this, Chiang Xiao finally realized Old Meng’s thoughts.

She couldn’t help but feel mixed emotions for the grandfather and grandson.

”Then I really won’t be polite and will go make a mess of your room?” she said playfully.

”Little, do you really want to live there?” Meng Xinian asked.

Chiang Xiao recalled what Old Meng had said and countered, ”Do you know why Grandpa always wants to keep this old house?”

”I don’t know, and I don’t want to know.”

Old Man Meng had wanted to talk to him before, but he never wanted to listen.

He always thought that what Old Man Meng wanted to say was merely that it was also the home where his mother had lived for many years, and he wanted to tell him which flowers she had planted, or that the cobblestone walking path was laid by her, collecting the stones one by one.

What would he do listening to those things?

The more he heard, the more he felt those were just illusions, the passing of time.

Impossible to grasp.

And it was already being trampled on by another woman.

Chiang Xiao said, ”I’ll write you a letter and tell you. But, I do want to settle down there, is that okay?”

”...As long as you wish, there’s nothing that’s not okay,” Meng Xinian sighed.

Outside, someone called out a report.

Chiang Xiao was momentarily taken aback, not expecting that Meng Xinian could also hear it over the phone. ”It’s the security guard on duty, must be someone delivering something there, he’s asking for permission to let them through.”
