Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 167: Chapter 167: Just Say She’s My Wife

Although he had mentioned it before his departure, Chiang Xiao’s identity needed to be kept secret, but after a restless night, he still felt the need to stress it once again.

Zhao Xin was stunned for a moment, ”But Captain, some of the guys heard me calling her that day, what should we do?” He couldn’t completely erase Chiang Xiao’s involvement in this mission.

Meng Xinian’s eyes flashed as he asked indifferently, ”What did you call her at the time?”

”Sister-in-law, ah!” Zhao Xin blurted out.

”Then if anyone asks, just insist she’s your sister-in-law, and it’ll be fine.”

”Ah?” Zhao Xin froze, ”My sister-in-law? Whose wife would that be?”

Meng Xinian was caught off guard by his remark, his handsome face stiffening for a good while. It took some time to regain his composure, ”She continues to be whose wife she was at the time.”

Zhao Xin raised his voice, about to call out ’Captain’ when he realized it was too loud and quickly lowered it, ”Chiang Student is so young, she doesn’t suit you, right? Wasn’t the whole child bride thing the other day just a desperate measure? If it’s said she’s your wife in the future, who would believe that?”

Indeed, that kitten was still young. Meng Xinian’s mind again conjured the slender figure of Chiang Xiao.

Feeling slightly uneasy.

Although he had planned it out, saying it so bluntly still made him feel his face flush.

Meng Xinian felt he was indeed somewhat shameless. How could he take advantage of such a young girl? Thinking so, he began to second-guess the plan, feeling that maybe they should reconsider the matter.

Just then, Zhao Xin said excitedly, ”Captain, how about this, we say she’s my wife. What do you think? Captain, captain, think about it, I come from the countryside, we have the old custom of arranging child marriages, people might believe it. Besides, Chiang Student is thirteen or fourteen, and I’m seventeen, just the right age difference, don’t you think?”

This kid was close to outright calling him old!

Meng Xinian’s jaw clenched tightly.

A certain kitten once said: Looking old isn’t your fault.

And now this kid Zhao Xin was suggesting he was too old?

The atmosphere grew tense.

”Zhao Xin.”

”Present!” Zhao Xin responded loudly, then with a cheeky grin, ”Captain, what do you think of my idea? Honestly, Chiang Student is really great. Otherwise, I could wait a few years for her...”

”Many people have already heard you call her sister-in-law,” Meng Xinian said through gritted teeth. ”It’s not appropriate! Moreover, this isn’t as simple as you think. Use your brain and don’t just fixate on getting a wife!”

After hanging up the phone, Zhao Xin scratched the back of his head.

He hadn’t fully understood, but if the captain had made such a decision, there must be a reason for it, right?

What a pity, he really liked Chiang Xiao, she was just a little young now, but he was only seventeen and could afford to wait!

Too bad, he could only continue to call her sister-in-law.

Leaving the communications room, someone called out to him.

”Zhao Xin!”

Seeing it was Officer Yang, Zhao Xin quickly ran over.

”Officer, what’s up?”

”Did your family call?”

”No, it was our captain who called.”

Yang Zhiqi’s gaze flickered, he uttered an ’oh’ and seemed to ask casually, ”Zhao Xin, what’s the deal with that girl from Peace Town?”

He had been at Hu Xibing’s Teahouse too, which was the temporary command post for the operation. At the time, Hu Xibing had provided medicine, but it was sent by a young girl. They had heard the girl’s voice, but none had seen her. Later, when they wanted to find her, Hu Xibing claimed she was brought by Meng Xinian, and that he himself didn’t recognize her.

When Zhao Xin heard him ask about Chiang Xiao, remembering the captain’s instructions over the phone, he immediately snapped to attention and gave a crisp salute.

”Reporting to Officer Yang! She’s my little sister-in-law!”
